Miami climbing on 2025 4-star LB Jarcoby Hopson’s radar after trip to Coral Gables
Miami has climbed on Horn Lake (Miss.) Lake Cormorant 2025 four-star linebacker Jarcoby Hopson’s radar.
Hopson took his first visit to Coral Gables for Miami’s opening scrimmage weekend with 2024 Lake Cormorant four-star defensive lineman Kamarion Franklin, an elite Miami priority target in this year’s cycle, but that didn’t stop the Canes from catching Hopson’s attention on his visit. The No. 179 linebacker in the On300 now has “very high interest” in Miami as a result.
“I think (Miami) is amazing,” Hopson said. “I think it feels great down here, and I like it very much. …They were coming to the school and saying they had to get me on campus, and they liked what they saw on my film. And once I found out my teammate Kamarion (Franklin) was coming down here, I had to take the opportunity.”
Miami views Hopson as an athletic and smart linebacker the staff can use on defense, and defensive coordinator Lance Guidry has also visited Hopson at his school. But Hopson said he’s taking his recruitment slow and doesn’t want to rush anything, although he saw what he was hoping to see on his trip to south Florida.
“They showed me energy, competitiveness and how you can be locked in and focused on football and still have a good time outside of football,” Hopson said. “And academics-wise, it’s so great here.”
Hopson wants to visit Ohio State, Cincinnati, Oregon, Arkansas, LSU and Clemson this spring. Ole Miss is the current favorite to land Hopson according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine ahead of Florida State, Texas A&M, Mississippi State and LSU. He has more than a dozen offers already as his stock continues to steadily climb.
He has taken five unofficial visits to Ole Miss, three to Florida State and Texas A&M, two to Mississippi State and one each to LSU, Texas, Jackson State, Auburn, Miami, Louisville, Oregon, Alabama and Georgia.
The four-star linebacker said he values playing time, a home feeling, academics and relationships with the coaching staff in his recruitment. He thinks he may commit to a program next spring.
CaneSport’s Take
Hopson is poised to be one of the more intriguing linebacker recruits in the 2025 class by the time next year’s class takes center stage. He’s taken 22 total unofficial visits already and will take plenty more before his recruitment is over, and Miami landing high on his radar this early in his recruitment is an encouraging development.
