Miami becomes sixth program to offer massive 2026 OL Rico Schrieber: ‘They have a great o-line program’
Chicago (Ill.) Marist 2026 offensive tackle Rico Schrieber’s recruitment has quickly gained steam this spring, which has now been capped off by a Miami offer.
The Hurricanes became the fifth program to offer Schrieber this spring — along with Nebraska, Purdue, Boston College and Buffalo — after Miami offensive line coach Alex Mirabal stopped by Marist last week for an evaluation visit. Mirabal quickly offered the 6-foot-7, 330-pound freshman after reviewing his tape with his head coach.
“I was very excited to hear it,” Schrieber said. “I’m very interested in them since they had two of the best offensive lineman from the 2023 class go there (five-star offensive tackles Francis Mauigoa and Samson Okunlola).”
Mirabal dropped by during the school day and didn’t have a chance to watch Schrieber’s practice or workout but still caught up with his head coach. He was impressed enough by Schrieber and saw what the other five programs to offer him saw: a massive, athletic prospect who stands out on game tape.
“I don’t know much about the school, but I think they have a great o-line program,” Schrieber said. “I think (Mirabal and head coach Mario Cristobal) are both great coaches.”
Schrieber visited Illinois this spring and wants to visit Miami, Alabama, Notre Dame and a few other programs this summer. He said he would likely visit Coral Gables around July but does not have anything set in stone.
He said he does not have a frontrunner in his recruitment, although the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine lists Purdue as a narrow early favorite with an estimated 25.8% chance to land the 6-foot-7 prospect.
Buffalo is listed second with a 22.6% chance; Nebraska is listed third with a 19.4% chance; and Miami and Boston College are tied for fourth with a 16.1% chance.
CaneSport’s Take
Miami has been busy in the Chicago area the past few weeks as multiple coaches have made multiple trips to check up on prospects like five-star 2024 defensive tackle Justin Scott, four-star 2024 EDGE Marquise Lightfoot and three-star and three-star defensive lineman Eddie Tuerk, who the Canes want to recruit as an interior offensive lineman.
The Hurricanes have had surprisingly encouraging success recruiting the Midwest so far this offseason, which has historically been Big Ten stomping grounds, and are in great shape with Scott and Lightfoot. Tuerk could also be a name to watch as Miami remains interested in him as an offensive line prospect, although the Canes are the only program not recruiting at his natural defensive line position.
