Miami becomes latest program to offer promising 2026 OL Bear McWhorter, who will visit at end of month: “I’m big on the Canes”

After a standout freshman campaign and a busy summer, Kingston (Ga.) Cass offensive tackle Bear McWhorter has caught the attention of several Power Five programs across the country, including the Miami Hurricanes, who offered him on July 15.

“It was awesome,” McWhorter told CaneSport. “I was very excited, and it is special getting that level of interest from a program like the U.”

Extending the offer to the 6-foot-3, 285-pounder was Miami offensive line coach Alex Mirabal, who impressed McWhorter throughout their conversation.

after a great conversation with @CoachMirabal i’m blessed to receive an offer from the University of Miami !!! #GoCanes @coach_cristobal @alonzohighsmith @CanesFootball @Gates_CassHC @CoachMcWhorter @RustyMansell_ @SWiltfong247 @ChadSimmons_ @JeremyO_Johnson #itsallabouttheU pic.twitter.com/nMo6fNDlfL

“I got the chance to talk to him for a few minutes,” McWhorter said. “We talked a lot of football and he likes the way I play and thinks that I have a lot of potential. He also told me that my offer is fully commit-able.”

Although the rising freshman was not yet born during the Hurricanes’ national championship-winning days, the program’s rich tradition is something that he is attracted to.

“I’m big on the Canes,” McWhorter said. “I grew up hearing about all the history behind it and how great they were, and I’ve always been interested in them since my process has got going.

Thus far, McWhorter has earned over 20 offers from the likes of Florida State, Penn State, Tennessee and Ole Miss, and is enjoying the recruiting process.

“It’s been great,” McWhorter said. “I’ve been very fortunate and can’t believe how much interest I’ve gotten. To think 21 schools have offered me before my sophomore year is crazy to me. I’ve been narrowing down my list and plan to release a top 12 next week.”

Despite still being in the early stages of his recruitment, McWhorter knows what he’ll be looking for in a program when it’s time to make a final decision.

“I look a lot at the people running the program, who is going to be coaching me and spending the most time with me,” McWhorter said. “Some other things I look at are location, academics, and what feels like the right fit for me.”

As far as where Miami stands at this point, McWhorter believes the Hurricanes are near the top of his list.

“It’s up there,” McWhorter added. “Like I said, I’ve always been interested, and now that I have the offer, they are definitely climbing up the list.”

CaneSport’s take

After earning the offer from Miami, McWhorter will quickly make his way to Coral Gables at the end of this month, which is a great sign for the Hurricanes early-on. “I will be at the Canes Cookout on July 29th,” McWhorter said. “I’m just hoping to meet and spend time with the coaches, specifically Coach Mirabal, and would love to spend time with Coach Mario Cristobal and hear about his vision for the program. I would also like to see the campus and facilities. I just want to get to know the coaching staff and what the future looks like in Miami.”
