Miami becomes first to offer 2025 WR Jacob Washington after strong camp outing: “Coach Cristobal made Miami feel like home”

After an impressive outing at a Miami summer camp working in front of Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal and wide receivers coach Kevin Beard, Archbishop Shaw (La.) wide receiver Jacob Washington earned his first Division I offer from the Canes, a program he has long watched and loved.
“Miami has always been a dream school of mine, and to have that offer from them is special,” Washington told CaneSport. “When I got the news that coach Cristobal would be offering me, I was proud of myself. I was just humbled by the offer, and I was just in awe. Coach Cristobal made Miami feel like home when I was there.”
After working out for Miami staff members, the 6-foot-3, 180-pounder was pulled aside by Cristobal and where they discussed with him what they liked about his game and why they decided to extend the offer to the 2025 wideout.
“Coach Cristobal and coach Beard liked my speed, length, and ability to get in and out of my cuts,” Washington said. “They also like how athletic I am and that I’m a big receiver.”
After working with Beard, Washington hopes to use some of the things he learned during that time and implement them into his game during his junior season.
“I feel like I gained a lot of insight from coach Beard at the camp,” Washington said. “He talked to me about just focusing on the little details because they can help you move your game to the next level, and if you focus on those, the bigger things will come easier.”
Since picking up the offer Washington has continued to hear from Miami.
“Miami has shown tons of love and support since they offered me,” Washington said. “They’re constantly reaching out almost every day, and it’s all new to me, so I appreciate the love from the Canes.”
When looking into a school, Washington says development on and off the field is at the top of his list and believes the Hurricanes can provide both.
“I would say a family environment like Miami has,” Washington said. “I want to go somewhere that doesn’t just elevate my athletic ability but also my academic ability. I think academics will play a big role in my decision in the future.”
With Miami being his first offer, Washington believes the Hurricanes’ early interest will play a large role in his thought process as his recruitment continues to grow.
“It has a huge impact on my decision in the future about where I’ll be playing college football,” Washington said. “With the Hurricanes constantly reaching out and sending mail throughout this process, it’s going to have a great impact on my decision.”
CaneSport’s take
Washington moves incredibly well for his stature, standing at 6-foot-3, and is a fluid route runner with great hands; it is easy to understand why Miami got into his recruiting so early despite him being a relatively unknown talent.
