Miami becomes first Power Four program to offer 2026 WR Tayveon Wilson: “I was shocked”

On Wednesday morning of this past week, the Miami Hurricanes dipped into West Virginia and became the first Power Four program to offer rising Huntington Prep (W. Va.) 2026 wide receiver Tayveon Wilson

Offering the talented pass-catcher was Canes tight ends coach Cody Woodiel, who made a strong first impression.

“I was shocked and happy that a coach from Miami made the trip all the way up here to see me,” Wilson told CaneSport. “It was just a great experience.”

Although Wilson is listed as a wide receiver in the On3 database, Miami offered the 6-foot-3, 205-pounder as a tight end.

“He was very welcoming,” Wilson explained when asked about Woodiel. “I can tell that the entire staff at Miami is welcoming just from just being around him.”

Along with Miami, Wilson has also earned offers from the likes of Marshall, App State, Toledo and Bowling Green. When asked about the Hurricanes, Wilson mentioned the program’s historical past and his excitement for what the future holds at Miami under third-year head coach Mario Cristobal.

“I think it’s a big start for me, and I’m very thankful,” Wilson said. “Miami has had a great program in the past, and I’m looking forward to seeing what they can do in the future.”

Wilson adds that seeing a program like Miami show interest and offer so early in his recruiting process was a bit unexpected, but it is something that excites him knowing programs from across the country are beginning to take notice.

“It was kind of neat getting my first offer from somewhere that is not close to me,” Wilson said. “When I look at a school, I’ll focus on good academics and a welcoming coaching staff.”

As a sophomore Wilson was a catalyst for his Huntington Prep, hauling in 27 receptions for 588 yards and 11 touchdowns while also rushing for four touchdowns and scoring four combined touchdowns on the defensive side of the ball and special teams.

“I feel like I excel in the open field whenever I get the ball,” Wilson said. “This upcoming year, I want to get quicker and stronger and win another state championship.”

CaneSport’s take

Although Wilson may not be ranked by any of the major recruiting services, there is no denying that the West Virginia native has what it takes to play at the Power Four level, and Miami has identified that early.
