Miami becomes first Power 5 program to offer 2025 WR Tanook Hines: ‘It’s the first P5 school to believe in me. That means a lot.’
Miami has all but ensured it will be on Houston (Tx.) Dekaney 2025 receiver Tanook Hines’ radar through the end of his recruitment.
The Hurricanes became the first Power Five program to offer Hines last week after the unranked receiver was contacted by Miami quality control analyst David Cooney, and Hines immediately appreciated the school taking a chance on him. He’s also the younger brother of Chuuky Hines, a sophomore receiver at Hawai’i.
“It’s the first P5 school to believe me in. That means a lot,” Hines said. “We were raised to be very loyal people. Them being the first P5 to offer is going to play into my recruitment as well as the other two schools being the first to take a chance on me (UTSA and Texas State).”
The 6-foot-1, 170-pound receiver has since picked up offers from Arkansas, Hawai’i and Wisconsin, all of which came within a 24-hour span. Cooney emphasized the quality of Miami’s coaching staff, how the Canes strive to create a family-feel in the locker room and the drive of the Canes’ players, adding Hines should want to be around like-minded athletes. Hines has also had limited contact with receivers coach Kevin Beard through approved channels.
But coaching staff and culture aren’t the only reasons Hines is interested in Miami.
“It’s The U. What’s not to like about them?” Hines said. “I think if you’re a real football fan, you always want to play for The U. The tradition the names that are associated with The U, I don’t think it gets better.”
Hines is beginning to hear from Michigan, Florida, Utah, Syracuse and Houston as well. He attended Houston’s spring game last weekend, will travel to UTSA this weekend and said he may swing out to another undisclosed spring game in late April.
His coaches plan to bring him to Coral Gables over the summer for camps and/or an unofficial visit.
CaneSport’s Take
Hines is on track to have his share of Power Five offers by the time crunch time rolls around, but we’re seeing Miami continue to cast an extremely wide offer net — including in states the Hurricanes’ pipeline doesn’t typically reach.
Miami has traditionally struggled in Texas (as have all Power Five Florida schools), although it hasn’t discouraged head coach Mario Cristobal and his staff from making the basic effort for guys like Hines, who the Canes view as a potential up-and-comer.
