Miami battling Big Ten foes for 4-star 2025 TE Brock Schott, who eyes summer return visit
Leo (Ind.) 2025 four-star tight end Brock Schott had only positive things to say about Miami as the Hurricanes battle programs like Ohio State, Wisconsin and Michigan State for his future services.
Schott, the No. 215 overall recruit and No. 12 tight end in the On3 Industry Ranking, has kept his eye on the Hurricanes after visiting Coral Gables for the first time for Miami’s elite junior day May 13 (although he did not attend head coach Mario Cristobal’s pool party that afternoon). The 6-foot-4, 210-pound prospect has been encouraged by how Miami plans to use the tight end position in new offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson’s offense, and the Hurricanes want him to return to Coral Gables for the team’s recruiting BBQ at the end of July.
“I like the campus,” Schott said. “I like how it isn’t too big and it’s easy to get around, and then how they use tight ends. It’s really great stuff. …I think that’s one of the most important things. I don’t want to go somewhere and not get used or not be able to use the skillset that I have. So knowing how they’ll use me before I get there would be a great thing.”
Schott said he hears from Miami and Wisconsin the most and has mostly communicated with Hurricanes tight ends coach Cody Woodiel. He spoke with Woodiel “pretty much the whole time” during his Miami visit and feels he’s building a close bond with the program, although he said he doesn’t feel any particular programs are sticking out this early.
However, he still has faith in the Hurricanes.
“I think it’s a really nice school,” Schott said. “I think they kind of struggled last season, but coach Cristobal’s done a good job recruiting and they’re going to bounce back and have a really good season this year.”
Schott said his recruitment will come down to which coaches and which roster of players he feels the most comfortable around.
He plans to attend camps at Ohio State, Notre Dame and Tennessee this summer. Iowa, Rutgers and Minnesota have all dropped by his school for evaluation visits this spring.
CaneSport’s Take
Miami has largely pursued bigger names at the tight end position between Woodiel’s and Stephen Field’s tenures in Coral Gables, and Schott is lining up to be another name to watch in the 2025 class. He likely isn’t finished growing or adding on weight, so Schott could be a physically massive target by the time his recruiting class rolls around — which most top-15 tight ends are.
