Miami among programs separating for top Kentucky IOL: “Their program is built for offensive linemen”
A handful of programs have begun separating for Louisville (KY) Louisville Male three-star interior offensive lineman Isaac “Spike” Sowells Jr. Including Miami.
Sowells said Miami, Kentucky, Wisconsin and NC State all helped themselves stand out during spring visits and has plans to visit Louisville and South Carolina this weekend. Sowells currently has official visits locked in with Miami, Kentucky, NC State and South Carolina but said he feels Miami, NC State and Kentucky have done a particularly good job maintaining constant contact with him and making the 6-foot-2, 290-pound lineman feel like a priority.
Sowells is currently the No. 543 overall prospect, No. 43 interior offensive lineman and No. 4 prospect in the state of Kentucky.
“There are a few schools I don’t have official visits locked in with, but I’d say those are the schools making the biggest push,” Sowells said. “… (Miami) texts me probably two or three times a day. We have a big group chat where they text me really frequently. They say The U is offensive-line oriented. Coach (Mario) Cristobal was an offensive lineman and was an offensive line coach for a long time. Their program is built for offensive linemen. They say that’s a big reason why I should go there.”
Sowells said analysts Reggie Bain and Edwin Pata have also been heavily involved in his recruitment and feels “having a staff of offensive lineman” is one of Miami’s advantages. He also said he doesn’t feel proximity to home will affect his decision and has no problem leaving the state if he feels his best opportunity is in Florida.
He currently plans to make a decision after his official visits. Sowells said he wants to take some time in late June and July to “sit back and think” with his family before making a decision. His father, a former Indiana offensive lineman and five-year NFL veteran, has also been involved in helping Sowells evaluate schools, although he understands it will ultimately be his decision when he chooses to commit.
“I have great parents who believe, ‘Spike, go where you’re wanted. Go where you’re best treated and where they truly want you there,’” Sowells said. “But I always ask them for feedback after my visits if they pick up on something I didn’t pick up on. I always want that second opinion on what they think too.”
CaneSport’s Take
Miami became a team to watch for Sowells some time ago, but I currently feel best about the Hurricanes, NC State and Kentucky considering the intensity they’ve recruited him with.
