Mentor of Top 100 RB Savion Hiter gives Michigan BBQ at The Big House visit high marks

Top 100 Woodberry Forest (Va.) School running back Savion Hiter made his first visit to Michigan in the spring and returned for a multi-day visit for the BBQ at The Big House this weekend.

It was a family affair for Hiter as he was joined by both of his parents as well as mentor Adam McCann, who said the group loved getting a more in-depth look at the program.

“They were very detail oriented,” McCann said. “From the weights being in the same direction to the staff being in line with the same mission and goals, I see why they win games. I see why the staff is so together. I see why their kids don’t go to the portal. Savion really enjoyed the visit. He loves it. He was smiling. All the staff in the building know his name. Everyone was geeked about him being there. It was like a family reunion with that staff.”

Michigan running backs coach Tony Alford has a relationship with McCann that goes back several years. Alford also recruited Hiter as a young prospect during his time at Ohio State and immediately made him a top priority after arriving at Michigan this offseason.

Alford made Hiter and everyone around him feel like at home during their stay in Ann Arbor.

“It’s always a pleasure to be with Tony,” McCann said. “Some of the things he was teaching in the meeting room were phenomenal. The kids learned a lot of good stuff. The pass blocking drills he had them do were phenomenal. I’m going to take them back to guys I work with. He treats every family the same regardless of where they are on his recruiting board. He’s always smiling, laughing and joking. He’s a great human being, especially to Savion and his family and to me.”

New Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore was also very involved on the visit and left a lasting impression.

 “I see why he was emotional after that game (against Penn State) and why Michigan means so much to him,” McCann said. “I have a newfound respect for Michigan and Coach Moore. We had a meeting with him and Savion and parents. He walked us around and joked with us. He’s one of the most upfront head coaches I’ve seen. He wants Savion really bad, but he also cares about his process. I was expecting him to squeeze Savion, but he just answered questions and gave us data and facts. He has a lot of respect in my book.”

Coming out of the visit, McCann believes Hiter, the No. 32 ranked recruit nationally, would be a fantastic fit at Michigan both on and off the field.

“After seeing it, I think he fits in more than I originally thought,” McCann said. “To actually go there, see the coaches, see the strength and conditioning team, see the NIL stuff, see the locker room upgrade they are releasing on Monday, I know they are going to have all the resources Savion needs. They explained everything. I see why kids want to be there. They show you how to get to the end result.”
