Mass. QB Peter Bourque on Notre Dame’s 2027 quarterback radar

Mass. QB Peter Bourque on Notre Dame’s 2027 quarterback radar

Notre Dame has to fend off other schools to keep its quarterbacks committed in the 2025 and 2026 classes, and while it does that, quarterbacks coach Gino Guidugli and Co. are evaluating at signal-callers for the 2027 cycle.

Marion (Mass.) Tabor Academy’s Peter Bourque is one of those passers. He impressed the Notre Dame coaching staff a good deal during their Irish Invasion camp June 2 and enjoyed his time on campus.

“There was a ton of talent there; the quarterback group was phenomenal,” he said. “Getting to workout with Deuce Knight and recent commit, Noah Grubbs, was great. Also, there were a great group of 2027 quarterbacks there as well. Of course, the facilities and the Notre Dame stadium were spectacular.

“The instruction was great. That was the second time I got to work out for Coach Guidugli; he is great and had some good insights for me. Also Coach [Kurt] Rawlings — that was the first time I met him, and I really enjoyed working with him. A couple of us were brought over during camp to meet with Coach [Marcus] Freeman which was great. He is a really impressive person and someone I would love to play for.

“After camp, my father and I got to spend a good amount of time in Coach Guidugli’s office, and he walked us through Notre Dame’s approach on offers … He talked to us about the team and how they are positioned for a multi year run to compete for national championships and are focused on bringing top tier quarterbacks.”

Bourque spent full two days on campus and got a complete look at the university. It’s safe to say he was impressed.

“I could not believe how beautiful the campus was,” Bourque continued. “Being able go inside the stadium where so many historic games were played was awesome … There was a real focus on the academic opportunity at Notre Dame which is very important to me and my family. The Golden Dome, Touchdown Jesus, the Grotto — so many iconic spots on campus. I came out of the visit fully understanding why Notre Dame is such a special place to so many people.”

Notre Dame has not offered any 2027 quarterbacks yet. What Bourque said about where things stand with the Irish’s signal-caller recruiting plan lines up with what other passers have said to Blue & Gold on the topic.

“I came out of camp feeling like I am a real priority, and I am excited to keep developing as a player as well as to continue to build relationships with Notre Dame,” Bourque said. “One thing I really appreciate with Coach Guidugli is his honesty and straight forward approach. This process is very new to me and trusting and understanding where I am with schools is so important. I feel Coach Guidugli is and always will be very straight forward with me.

“He explained their plan for the 2027 quarterbacks and that they expect to make a few offers in the fall after they get a chance to see some game film. There is a ton of work to still be done but it seems like I am in contention and that is all I can ask for.”

Penn State, Syracuse, Maryland and Kentucky are among the 6-4, 195-pounder’s offer sheet, and he’s hoping to add the Fighting Irish to the list this fall.

“Notre Dame is a place where I can get a world renowned education and at the same time, compete year in and year out for national championships,” he said. “As a student-athlete and a competitor, you cannot ask for more.”

During his freshman season in 2023, Bourque completed 123 of 208 passes for 2,032 yards with 18 touchdowns and 6 interceptions.

Bourque has been ranked by one major media news outlet. He’s the No. 62 overall player and 7 quarterback according to 247 Sports.
