Martin Truex Jr. shares update on NASCAR future after Daytona 500 wreck

Martin Truex Jr. shared some encouraging news about his NASCAR future after getting into a wreck at the Daytona 500. When speaking to reporters (per Alan Cavanna), Truex said he would compete in another Cup Series race this season. However, he is not sure when or where he’ll return.
In June, Truex announced his retirement from full-time racing. He finished the 2024 season with an appearance in the Cup Series playoffs and a 10th-place finish in the final point standings.
On Jan. 16, it was announced that Martin Truex Jr. would drive the No. 56 Toyota Camry for Tricon Garage at the Daytona 500. “It’s going to be a really cool deal to be able to work with Cole and have the number 56 again,” Truex Jr. said in a team release at the time. “I really appreciate everyone at Bass Pro Shops, TRICON and Toyota helping put this together to go have some fun, and I can’t think of a better time to go win the thing for Johnny Morris.”

“This opportunity is a testament to the dedication of our entire organization and our partners at Toyota. Having raced against Martin for many years, I can confidently say there’s no stronger competitor I’d want behind the wheel for our first Cup Series entry at the sport’s most prestigious race,” David Gilliland, partner, Tricon Garage, said.
“As an open entry, we know the road ahead will be challenging, but I have no doubt that Martin will put us in the best position to succeed. I’ve had the privilege of sitting on the pole at Daytona, but my next goal is to celebrate in victory lane.”
Ahead of “The Great American Race,” Truex spoke to FOX Sports’ Regan Smith about driving the No. 56 car for Tricon Garage. “So far it’s been fun,” Truex said. “We’ve got a nice cast of characters on our car that have been around a long time. Bunch of really good guys. Got [crew chief] Cole [Pearn] to come back down to do it, so it’s been a lot of fun and hopefully we can have a good night tonight and a good night tomorrow night and have some fun on Sunday.”
Truex was looking to win the Daytona 500 for the first time in his career. In his 693 career Cup Series races, the 44-year-old has earned 34 victories with 291 top-10 finishes.
