Big Nook Kickoff travelled to Lubbock for No. 20 Colorado vs. Texas Tech in a Week 12 conference matchup — and it was only a matter of time until a tortilla fight broke out.

The tradition of Texas Tech tortilla throwing began decades ago, although no one can pinpoint an exact origin of how it began. However, the Red Raiders fanbase let their love of tortillas be known to a national audience on Saturday.

In turn, tortillas have been a theme of Saturday’s show. In fact, the fans came ready with tortillas with ‘Big Noon Kickoff: Texas Tech vs. Colorado’ burned into it.

BNK co-host Mark Ingrim was the target of more than one tortilla attack during the show. Meanwhile, Rob Stone also showed off a couple tricks he’s learned since arriving in Lubbock. He showed the rest of the crew how to make them more aerodynamic for throwing farther distances — fold it into four and take a bite out of it. If they want to really cause some damage, freeze them overnight, Stone said.

He also told the rest of the crew to refrain from eating the tortillas that were tossed on the ground. Of course, that goes without saying as Stone compared it to yellow snow.

Colorado head coach Deion Sanders joined the Big Noon Kickoff broadcast — but from the safety of the Buffs’ team hotel. With Coach Prime likely having been a target for tortilla throwing by rowdy fans on set, he’s hoping the fans left all the tortillas outside the stadium ahead of kickoff.

Tortillas aside, Texas Tech is 4-1 at home this season, and Saturday’s matchup against Colorado is the last chance the Red Raiders have to play in a ranked matchup this season while the Buffs are looking to cruise past them on their way to a potential Big 12 Championship game berth.

The fans know what’s at stake for the Red Raiders on Saturday, and it appears they’ve turned out in droves to support their squad agaisnt Deion Sanders and company. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. ET live on FOX.
