Marcus Carr shares how collision with Miami big impacted his game

Texas guard Marcus Carr finished his college basketball career in heartbreaking fashion Sunday as the Longhorns couldn’t contain a furious Miami comeback that sent the Hurricanes to the Final Four and Texas back home to Austin.

But there was also a moment in the second half that could have made Carr’s day much worse.

With about 11 minutes left in the game, Carr jumped to catch a pass from Timmy Allen and colliaded with Hurricanes big Norchad Omier. Omier was late to the ball and was called for the foul.

Carr was shaken up on the play and was subbed out. But he was back in the game about 30 seconds of game time later and played the rest of the way.

The veteran addressed the play after the game and how much it might have impacted him.

“It was a loose ball saved by Timmy,” Carr said. “He threw it back, and I jumped up to get it. I guess we both jumped. His body hit my body, kind of kneed me in my quad. Big strong dude, so yeah, it hurt, but I was all right throughout the second half.”

Carr finished the game versus Miami with a team-high 17 points and game-high six assists with only one turnover. However, he shot only 6 of 15 from the floor.

An All-Big 12 first team member, Carr was the Texas’ leader in scoring and assists on the season.

The Longhorns were up by 13 points in the second half before the Hurricanes made an impressive comeback to cut the deficit and then take the lead.

Carr hit a jumper with about 91 seconds left to tie the game at 79. But then Omier hit two free throws on the other end to go up. Carr then turned the ball over on the next possession and Miami hit two more free throws, turning the battle into a foul game the rest of the way.

Miami prevailed 88-81.

“Miami really started trying to get downhill,” Texas interim head coach Rodney Terry said. “They started putting their heads down, going one-on-one a little bit, tried to spread us out. And really did a good job of getting into the paint and getting to the foul line. They made 28 free throws and we gave them 32 foul shots. They did a good job of really attacking the paint.”
