Malaska Weighs in on Sooners Offer

Oklahoma’s offer to Bethany, Okla. 2026 cornerback Evenson Malaska is a sign of how the Sooners will handle in-state recruiting going forward. The talented rising sophomore didn’t hold an offer but Oklahoma wasted no time in changing that following a strong camp performance.

“I was very surprised, I didn’t expect to get an offer until like next year,” Malaska admitted. “Coach (Brandon) Hall let me know a little bit that I was going to get an offer and then I got pulled to coach (Brent) Venables at the field and got an offer.

“OU is very important to me right now.”

While recruiting fans recognized the value of the Sooners making their first 2026 in-state offer, did Oklahoma?

“(Venables) said that he liked me and that I was the first 2026 guy to get an offer, that was a big thing,” he explained.

Sooners New Offers Took A Long and Winding Road

Malaska is the younger brother of current Utah sophomore Jocelyn Malaska. His brother came on very late in the recruiting process before ending up in Salt Lake City. The brothers came to Oklahoma through a considerable circuitous route.

“I’m from Haiti, I was born in Passe-Pomme and lived in the [GVCM Orphange in Mirebalais] with three of my brothers. I moved to the US when I was like seven to go to school here,” he explained.

While ‘Jocy’ had to break down a lot of walls to convince people his small school background wouldn’t slow his progress Evenson’s Sooners offer is a sign of how much things have changed. The two have talked about how to handle the recruiting process.

“His advice is to grind, work hard, and keep going. Never give up on my life goals,” he said.

For now though he’s just focused on his sophomore season. And though he’s lost current Sooners freshman Taylor Heim from the roster, he says he’s not alone for the Bronchos.

“Next year looks great for us, Wyatt (Geissler) and I are going to be doing all we can to help the team.”
