Mailbag Podcast: Vols finding some answers as camp continues

Tennessee football is three weeks into fall camp with two scrimmages out of the way. What are some of those questions that we entered fall camp with that are starting to get figured out? What still needs to happen for this team with just a few weeks until the opening kickoff?

Josh Heupel and his football staff continue recruiting as the 2024 cycle rolls on. Who are some of the bigger targets left on the board and who is Tennessee closest with at this time?

Brent Hubbs, Austin Price, Rob Lewis and eric Cain cover it all on this week’s edition of the Volquest Mailbag Podcast. This podcast is presented by Exterior Home Solutions. For a free estimate, give them a call at 865-524-5888.

Quote of the Pod on Tennessee

Austin Price Brent Hubbs on Cooper Mays’ potential availability/usage in the season-opener…

Price: “I think if Cooper can go, he goes. I think that in a perfect world, Cooper could go and you build a lead and then you put Ollie Lane in. If he didn’t go against Virginia, I think in a perfect world you definitely want to have him back to just knock the rust off against Austin Peay. I don’t think you want him going in there having not done anything in a month against Florida. That’s just me, though.”

Hubbs: “I agree with you. The other thing too, you got to take into account the conditioning. I mean the pace of playing in a game – I know you’ve tried to go fast in practice but it is still a little bit different. You want Cooper Mays to get that. Here’s a newsflash, you need you need some left guard continuity with Cooper Mays out there too. You don’t want to go to Florida and really have a left guard playing for the first time beside Cooper Mays at center. So, I think there’s plenty of work to go around for all those guys.”
