1. Who will be the last two offensive line commits for Kansas State?
DY: With Kyle Rakers recently committing to Kansas State, it isn’t out of the question that the Wildcats add just one the remainder of the cycle. It would give them four pledges at the position, joining a group that also consists of Ryan Howard and Gus Hawkins.
At the moment, the focus remains on K-State targets Kaedin Massey and Grant Brix. Would they take both? I tend to think so, but it also may be the only scenario where they would take two more as well. At the moment, I’m probably more confident on the Wildcats’ chances with Brix.
2. Are we ok with Cam Carter or Dorian Finister being a point guard?
DY: I don’t think either one of Cam Carter or Dorian Finister even play the position. Because of that, I wouldn’t expect Kansas State to go that route. Tylor Perry would be a point guard even before them and potentially Dai Dai Ames.
3. If K-State can’t find a suitable receiver transfer, do you think they turn to a different position?
DY: I’m not sure about that. K-State has only zeroed in on receivers.
4. What is your prediction for the starting secondary?
DY: That is tough to answer in June, but I’d lean towards the two Kansas State cornerbacks being Keenan Garber and Jacob Parrish at this point and the safeties being VJ Payne, Kobe Savage and Marques Sigle.
If I were to be wrong, it is probably because Tyler Nelome wins a job.
5. Will Kansas State be a tournament team if they strike out on any other solid transfer targets?
DY: My answer on that has been yes, just because I am a lot higher on Tylor Perry than most and believe that Nae’Qwan Tomlin could be in the Big 12 Player of the Year conversation. I know my optimism and stubborn belief in K-State and the coaching staff is beginning to irritate folks, but I truly think that way.
I’m not counting them out, and they will probably still land solid options as well.
6. Does landing Tyler Nelome afford the Wildcats the chance to move Jacob Parrish to safety?
DY: Technically, yes.
Nelome can be added to a cornerback room that also includes Parrish, Garber, Will Lee and Jordan Wright. I wouldn’t rule it out, but I also think there is a greater chance it would be someone else that makes that move.
7. Is it time to start worrying about filling out the rest of the basketball roster?
DY: I’m not going to tell people what to do. It is clear that some Kansas State fans have reached that point. But as I shared earlier, I am not prepared to do that.
I just learn from my mistakes, despite logic sometimes suggesting otherwise. The most common mistake I made at my job in the past 13 months was to doubt what Jerome Tang and his staff. I’m serious when I say that. Every time, they made me look like a fool.
At the same time, something has to give. I know it can be construed in multiple ways, but there is a lot, and I mean a lot, of teams that still have a handful of spots to fill. While that does mean K-State still has a lot of competition for targets, it also means there is probably a lot more movement still to come.
8. How many will K-State take in the 2024 football class?
DY: To give a concrete number at this point in the recruiting calendar would make me a fool.
There is just too many factors that can impact that number anymore. We don’t know who from Kansas State will come back for an extra season, who will enter the transfer portal or how much the Wildcats will use the transfer portal.
As we have shared, the high school class should just be a smaller one than usual.
