Lucky Charms: Scoop on a handful of recruits headed to Notre Dame this week

Here are today’s Lucky Charms, a Monday-Thursday nightly insider notes article on Notre Dame football recruiting.

*** The Blue-Gold Game weekend will be one of the biggest of the year for Notre Dame, but the week prior is shaping up to be important for the Irish as well. This article looks at names who are new additions to the board that we haven’t already reported at Blue & Gold. The full visitor list is posted on the Lou Somogyi Board.

Let’s start with Phoenix Brophy Prep’s Cree Thomas, a class of 2025 cornerback who will be on campus from Friday to Sunday. Thomas comes from the same high school that produced star Notre Dame cornerback Benjamin Morrison. Thomas picked up an offer from Notre Dame last month for Pot of Gold day and also has the likes of Arizona, Oregon, Cal, Arizona State and Purdue on his offer sheet.

*** Hamilton (Ind.) Southeastern’s Styles Precod, the nation’s No. 581 overall prospect and No. 40 interior offensive lineman per the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking, is set to return to Notre Dame this Saturday, a source tells Blue & Gold. It’ll be Prescod’s third visit to campus, as he also caught a game last fall and was in South Bend for junior day in January.

Prescod is one of the more intriguing prospects on the board, as Notre Dame already has two offensive line commitments and currently only plans to take three total in the class. Where does Prescod stand on the board? Clearly, the staff is very interested in him if they’re having him on campus, but still, it’s an interesting situation to track moving forward.

*** Southlake (Texas) Carroll’s Jack VanDorselaer, the No. 201 prospect and No. 7 tight end according to the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking, will be on campus Saturday. VanDorselaer added his offer from the Irish on Pot of Gold day in March. Baylor, Texas, Texas Tech, Colorado, Texas A&M and Tennessee are just a few schools on his long offer sheet.

*** Two prospects who don’t have offers from Notre Dame yet but are set to visit campus April 14 are Milford (Conn.) Brunswick School class of 2025 safety Ethan Long and Bronx (N.Y.) Archbishop Stepinac class of 2024 safety Samuel Madu. Long is a fairly under-the-radar player at this point with his Power Five offers coming from Boston College, Duke and Pittsburgh. Madu has scholarship offers from Duke, Vanderbilt, Minnesota, Penn State, Michigan State, Missouri and others.

*** I haven’t been able to fully confirm it yet, but I’m told that Alpharetta (Ga.) High’s Ethan Barbour is visiting Notre Dame Saturday. Barbour, the No. 124 overall recruit and No. 3 tight end per the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking, picked up an offer from the Fighting Irish last October and has virtually all the heavy hitters in the South on his offer sheet. It would be a major recruiting win for the Irish to land Barbour and getting him on campus for the first time is a huge step.

*** It had previously been reported that Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy class of 2025 linebacker Gavin Nix would visit Notre Dame for the Blue-Gold Game April 22, but he told Blue & Gold that he moved the trip to this Saturday. Nix doesn’t have an offer from the Irish yet, but it would be far from a surprise to see that change in the near future. The 6-0, 226-pounder holds offers from Florida, Miami, Florida State, South Carolina, Michigan and others.
