Lucky Charms: Notre Dame 2025 quarterback recruiting has heated up
Here are today’s Lucky Charms, a Monday-Thursday nightly insider notes article on Notre Dame football recruiting.
Make that three days in a row covering Irish quarterback recruiting in Lucky Charms. The past two articles covered the 2026 class, while we’ll look at the 2025 cycle for tonight’s article.
*** As we reported over the weekend, Murietta (Calif.) Valley’s Bear Bachmeier, who ranks as the nation’s No. 112 overall player and No. 9 quarterback in America according to the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking, will be visiting Notre Dame next weekend for the Central Michigan game. This has been in the plans for a while, but he informed Blue & Gold this past Saturday that he locked in the trip.
And in full transparency, I think the visit could be for the win. Bachmeier has really clicked with the coaching staff in the past month and a half or so since he added the offer from the Irish. When I last interviewed Bachmeier, he told me he wasn’t anywhere close to a decision because he’s only visited three schools (Alabama, Stanford and Oregon), but his love for Notre Dame trumps any willingness to wait, in my opinion. If all goes well on that trip, I think there’s a pretty good chance he could pop in favor of the Irish.
*** My understanding is that both Bachmeier and Deuce Knight, who is — to my knowledge — back at Lucedale (Miss.) George County — are aware of Notre Dame’s standing at the position in the 2025 class. And Notre Dame will take either of the talented quarterbacks. It’s a first come, first serve type situation. With this being the case, Knight basically has a week to decide if he wants to jump Bachmeier’s spot in line, if indeed Bachmeier does want to pop after visiting next weekend. I do believe this is something Knight is seriously pondering.
*** Over the summer, Knight transferred from his school in Mississippi to Nashville (Tenn.) Lipscomb Academy, and to be honest, I thought this was not good development for the Irish but not the end of the world. My thought process behind that? I was told that Knight and Tennessee cornerback commit Kaleb Beasley are very close friends, and that relationship is a big reason why Knight transferred to Lipscomb in the first place. And it was always going be more likely that Tennessee would land both prospects than Notre Dame (the Irish hope to flip Beasley but it’s looking increasingly unlikely). So, him transferring back to George County is viewed as good news for Notre Dame.
*** So what will happen? I couldn’t tell ya. This article is to give more context about the situation rather than an “update.” Because I’ve been writing for weeks now that I believe Notre Dame will land one of the two talented passers. Bachmeier may favor Notre Dame more than Knight does at this point, but I actually think the Irish land Knight. However, that’s a total guess. I do think it’s pretty likely we get an answer on who Notre Dame lands at the position by the end of the month, though.
