Lucky Charms: Insight on Notre Dame QB commit Noah Grubbs from private trainer

Here are today’s Lucky Charms, a Monday-Thursday insider notes article on Notre Dame football recruiting.

Blue & Gold made it down to Tampa, Fla. Saturday to watch Lake Mary (Fla.) High quarterback and Notre Dame commit Noah Grubbs compete in the Elite 11 regionals. After the event ended, Grubbs’ private quarterback trainer Baylin Trujillo spoke with Blue & Gold about his star student.

On Grubbs’ Elite 11 regional performance…

“I saw consistency, velocity in his passes and most importantly, he was putting the ball in the right spots. He was very accurate today, and that’s what I care about the most. The deep ball today was very efficient; he threw with touch but also velocity. He looked really clean today. He was definitely a top three guy out here.”

On where Grubbs is excelling as a quarterback…

“He’s done a great job with taking care of his body. He looks efficient with how he’s moving and is light on his feet. He ran a 4.9 laser in the 40-yard dash twice, so he’s probably running a 4.7 or 4.8 hand-timed, which is great. That’s a really good sign. He’s been working with a speed trainer the past couple months. He looks so much cleaner with the weight he’s lost.”

On areas of improvement in Grubbs’ game…

“We’ve been working on him throwing on the move in the offseason, and he’s doing really well with that. I think he needs to really rip the ball on intermediate passes instead of placing the ball.”

On Grubbs’ productivity as a quarterback..

“He’s the most prolific quarterback in the history of Seminole County, and it’s an area that’s produced NFL guys like Blake Bortles and Jeff Driskel. He’s shattered every record in only 2.5 years. He’s done everything in terms of stats, and he led Lake Mary to its first ever state championship game appearance. This year, the expectation is to get back there and finish the job.

“If he continues to work on craft and limits his turnovers — we’re focusing on that. You can turn 41 touchdowns into 50 if you limit those. Focusing on the little things will help him explode even more and have another great season.”

On Grubbs’ commitment to Notre Dame…

“He’s solidly committed to Notre Dame. He’s not going to wavier from that. It’s going really well. He’s excited about visiting there with his teammate (Brian Williams Jr.). And he’s doing a great job with recruiting; he’s working the phones with a bunch of recruits. We think there’s going to be a big wave of commits.”
