Lucky Charms: Four-star Chicago recruit locks in Notre Dame visit; 2024 WR notes

Here are today’s Lucky Charms, a Monday-Thursday nightly insider notes article on Notre Dame football recruiting.

*** We’ve been hearing this month that Chicago Simeon’s Christopher Burgess, the No. 224 overall prospect and No. 19 EDGE according to the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking, was looking to get to Notre Dame for the cookout recruiting event at the end of the month. Burgess had previously told us that he wasn’t sure if he’d be able to make it to campus July 30, but on Monday he told Blue & Gold’s Kyle Kelly that the trip is locked in.

Notre Dame will have another top 2025 defensive lineman from Chicagoland visit that day in La Grange Park (Ill.) Nazareth Academy’s Gabe Kaminski. They’re both big targets for the staff; the Irish would love to turn their Chicago D-line misfortunes around with these two players.

*** In The Gold Standard this afternoon, I wrote that there wasn’t anything notable to report on the 2024 wide receiver board yet. Here’s a little bit more info with the staff circling back to some older targets.

St. Louis Christian Brothers Jeremiah McClellan was a longtime target for the Irish who the staff wasn’t able to make much progress after looking like a big contender for him early on. After Isiah Canion decommitted, the staff would’ve hoped to get back in the mix for McClellan, but he announced a top-five schools list of Ohio State, Oregon, Georgia, LSU and Missouri on Sunday.

On3’s Inside Texas reported that St. Louis University High’s Ryan Wingo doesn’t plan to make a commitment to a school until signing day in December. That might seem like a positive for Notre Dame as they’re currently so far behind, but there’s just no chance — in my estimation — that the Irish are able to get in the mix here. That’s just a crazy recruitment and a battle Notre Dame won’t want to continue in.

*** There’s been a lot of talk about Tampa (Fla.) Carrollwood Day’s Bredell Richardson after the 2024 wide receiver prospect tweeted last week that he’ll be back to Notre Dame soon. I wrote last week that I doubt much would come of this, and I’m doubling down on that today. Look for Richardson to end up elsewhere.

The staff is still working on the 2024 receiver board. It might take some time to sort out.
