Lucky Charms: Five-star Elijah Rushing decommits from Arizona; will Notre Dame pursue?

Here are today’s Lucky Charms, a Monday-Thursday nightly insider notes article on Notre Dame football recruiting.

*** To answer the question posed in the headline, my understanding is that the answer is yes. They’ll at least try. I’m told Notre Dame will (or already has by Monday night) get in contact with Tucson (Ariz.) Salpointe Catholic’s Elijah Rushing, the No. 31 overall player and No. 5 EDGE nationally according to the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking.

The five-star prospect took summer official visits to Arizona, Notre Dame, Oregon and Tennessee before committing to the Wildcats July 6. Rushing decommitted from Arizona on Sunday, and although some folks in the industry expect him to end up at Oregon, the word is that he’s going to look at several schools before making his next commitment. And again, Blue & Gold is told that Notre Dame plans to see where Rushing is at and go from there.

In this writer’s opinion, I give Notre Dame a slim chance to actually land Rushing. He most likely will end up at Oregon, if I had to guess.

*** Goodland (Kan.) High class of 2025 athlete Linkon Cure is a name for Fighting Irish fans to get familiar with. Blue & Gold learned Monday morning that Cure, who stands at a reported 6-4.5, 210 pounds, is visiting Notre Dame this weekend for the USC game, and it would come as little surprise if the Irish offer him while he’s on campus. Cure comes from a big Catholic family, and they’re very excited about the trip to Notre Dame from what I’m told. This could be a really big offer for him.

Kansas State is considered the heavy favorite for Cure according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM). Two On3 writers have already logged picks for him to choose the Wildcats. Nebraska, Iowa State, Penn State, Missouri, Oregon, Auburn, Wisconsin, Michigan and Florida are among his scholarship offers. But again, Notre Dame offering could make a big impact on Cure.

Cure is listed as an athlete, and it’s my understanding that Notre Dame is recruiting him as a tight end. Now, what that means for recruiting at the position in 2025 — I don’t have the answers to that yet. We’ll see how things shake out if the Fighting Irish do indeed offer him.
