LSU is making a big push at Duncanville High School in South Dallas in the 2024 recruiting cycle. The Tigers have multiple targets suiting up for the defending state champions.
Thursday was Duncanville’s spring game and there was plenty of LSU recruiting intel to gather from The Bengal Tiger’s stop.
*** 2024 five-star EDGE Colin Simmons is planning to officially visit LSU for the Florida game this fall. He’s also got official visits lined up for the likes of Texas, Miami and Oregon this summer. Alabama and Texas A&M are expected to get fall official visits as well.
If I’m handicapping this race, I’d give LSU, Alabama and Texas A&M the best odds, at this stage. This one will come down to the wire as Simmons is taking this one all the way.
On the field, Simmons is downright disruptive. He’s already one of the best high school football players I’ve seen through my years as he enters his senior year. He has a spin move, a counter, speed rush and bend with all his repertoire. He’ll be an instant impact defender at the next level.
*** 2024 four-star running back Caden Durham will officially visit LSU the last weekend of June. Oklahoma and Michigan State also have June official visits. He’s quiet when it comes to his recruitment and was mum on his top schools overall. A decision could also come at any time. He raves about LSU and Oklahoma. When you talk to people around the program, you can get differing takes on whether LSU or Oklahoma lead. The visit left me feeling better about LSU’s chances, but this one will be close.
Durham’s got elite speed and caught the ball well out of the backfield. He ripped off a long touchdown run and showed why On3 has him as a Top 100 overall prospect nationally.
*** 2024 four-star defensive lineman Alex January is excited to get time to really meet Jimmy Lindsey on his visit. He said he had a great time in Baton Rouge on his visit earlier this spring. Texas will be tough to beat, but LSU has a shot here if the visit goes well. A decision is expected after his June official visits.
January got a little nicked up early in the game, but played through it and played well. He showed the ability to eat up space and also some explosiveness as he rushed the passer. He’s a big, big body in the middle of the Duncanville defense and displayed impressive movement, even though he was hampered a bit by what looked like a nicked up ankle.
*** 2024 four-star safety Ka’Davion Dotson-Walker is one of the top safeties in America and LSU is right at the top of his recruitment. The big question is will the Tigers have room? With a pair of elite safeties and two nickel prospects already on board, LSU has done well recruiting the position. Factor in four-star in-state safety Joel Rogers trending for LSU and Kerry Cooks will have a decision to make. If LSU pushes, they’ll have a good shot to beat out Texas, SMU and Oklahoma State. SMU and Oklahoma State have the lone two official visits locked in, at this stage.
Dotson-Walker is on the thinner side, looking like a true free safety, but he does play with an edge that’s encouraging for his frame. He’s a Top 25 safety nationally and one of the top safeties in the country.
*** 2025 four-star quarterback Keelon Russell will camp at LSU on June 7, the first Elite Camp of the summer. Quarterbacks coach Joe Sloan is recruiting Russell, was by this spring to check on the impressive rising junior, and Russell likes LSU’s history. There are numerous programs like Baylor, TCU and others he’s interested in as well. TCU’s made a good initial impression since offering him, but an LSU offer could certainly shake things up.
