LSU moves closer to a Top 5 recruiting class

LSU moves closer to a Top 5 recruiting class

The LSU football staff landed a commitment from Duncanville High running back Caden Durham on Thursday, giving the Tigers a huge win in the Lone Star State.

With the addition of Durham, LSU moves to 24 commitments for the 2024 class. The Tigers also jumped Clemson, Tennessee, Penn State and Michigan to move into the No. 6 class on the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. LSU entered the day with the No. 10 class.

Durham is LSU’s first running back addition this cycle, and he’s expected to be the lone recruit the Tigers sign at the position in December.

LSU makes a big jump in the Top 10

It’s been a red-hot few weeks for LSU on the recruiting trail, with the Tigers moving from outside the Top 15 all the way up to the No. 6 class in the country.

With four-star wide receiver Jelani Watkins announcing his pledge to the Tigers on August 4, LSU jumped Texas A&M, Notre Dame and Southern Cal to move into the No. 10 spot in the rankings.

Now, the addition of Durham has moved LSU up four more spots, this time leaping past Clemson, Tennessee, Penn State and Michigan.

LSU only trails five teams in the recruiting rankings in Georgia, Ohio State, Alabama, Florida and Florida State.

How the 2024 class looks in Baton Rouge

With 24 commitments for the 2024 class, the Tigers continue to build out a deep haul of high school prospects this cycle.

Durham is the eighth addition from the out-of-state crop of targets for LSU.

LSU has now added Durham, Texas offensive tackle Ory Williams, Florida cornerback Cai Bates, Tennessee cornerback Ondre Evans, North Carolina offensive tackle Ethan Calloway, Florida quarterback Colin Hurley, Georgia wide receiver Joseph Stone and Texas linebacker Davhon Keys.

When it comes to recruiting Louisiana natives, LSU has now added 16 recruits on board.

On offense, the highest-ranked commitment from the Bayou State is four-star Trey’Dez Green, who is ranked as the No. 72 overall prospect in the class. Watkins joins Terrebonne wide receiver Kylan Billiot and John Curtis wide receiver Michael Turner as Louisiana natives on the wide receiver commit list. On the offensive line, the Tigers have two Louisiana prospects committed in John Ehret offensive lineman Khayree Lee and Natchitoches Central offensive lineman Joseph Cryer.

Top 150 linebacker Tylen Singleton is the most recent name in from Louisiana on defense, and Denham Springs safety Dashawn McBryde is the lone commitment on defense ranked higher than Singleton. McBryde enters his senior season as a Top 100 prospect nationally.

Destrehan linebacker/EDGE rusher Kolaj Cobbins, Lafayette Christian Academy cornerback Ju’Juan Johnson, West Feliciana safety Joel Rogers, Westgate defensive lineman De’Myrion Johnson, Ruston defensive lineman Ahmad Breaux, Warren Easton defensive back Wallace Foster and former Jonesboro-Hodge linebacker Xavier Atkins are the other Louisiana natives in on defense.

There’s also a special teams pledge on board, and it’s from the nation’s No. 1 kicker prospect in Parkway (La.) star Aeron Burrell.
