LSU MBB makes initial contact with top 2026 prospects
June 15 marked the first day of contact for basketball coaches across the country with 2026 prospects and the LSU staff was quick to get on the phone with several of its top prospects. Of course, a lot of the attention is on the 2025 class as Matt McMahon and LSU look to build another top-15 caliber high school class, but there’s always an eye to the future and even just a call on this first day puts LSU in the heads of these top prospects this summer.
Tha AAU circuit has been in full swing for a month now and LSU’s staff has been able to see all of these potential 2026 prospects, so we’ll track to see which ones can get on campus for unofficial visits this fall before their recruitment picks up next year.
Here’s a rundown of the players who have confirmed to have been contacted by LSU so far today.
Top 40 prospects (Industry Ranking)
Jason Crowe Jr. – 6’2” G from Lynwood, CA (No. 5)
Caleb Gaskins – 6’7” SF from Melbourne, FL (No. 10)
Sam Funches – 6’10” C from Gluckstadt, MS (No. 14)
Kayden Allen – 6’5”SG from Lawrenceville, GA (No. 16)
JJ Andrews – 6’6” SF from Little Rock, AR (No. 19)
Cole Cloer – 6’6” SF from Hillsborough, NC (No. 26)
Dakari Spear – 6’4” SG from The Colony, TX (No. 29)
Jacob Lanier – 6’5” SG from Little Rock, AR (No. 33)
Brandon Bass Jr. – 6’3” G from Windermere, FL (No. 34)
A group mostly from the south and bordering states, LSU will continue to target these high-level prospects and hope to get some on campus both this year and next. I was able to watch Brandon Bass Jr. twice at the same time as Matt McMahon and assistant coach Casey Long and the shooting talent is real to pair with a solid frame that projects well.
Other four stars
Tre Clark – 6’7” SF from San Antonio, TX
Gabe Weis – 6’7” PF from Springfield, KY
Dothan Ijadimbola – 6’6” SF from Minneapolis, MN
RJ Livingston – 6’2” PG from New Orleans, LA
Landyn Colyer – 6’5” SF from Tampa, FL
Ashton Pierce – 6’2” G from Huntersville, NC
Players from all across the country, but Livingston is at Isidore Newman in New Orleans and should be the featured player there with five-star 2025 prospect Chris Cenac transferring to Link Academy for his senior season. LSU is an early favorite for Clark who has been in contact with the Tigers since 2023 and said he’s interested in taking an unofficial to LSU.
Not currently rated
Tarris Bouie – 6’5” SF from Charlotte, NC
Michael Phillips – 6’6” SG from Cary, NC
Ethan Mgbako – 6’6” SF from Roselle, NJ
Three east coast talents, LSU has had success recruiting the coast in recent years with Mike Williams and Tyrell Ward and also has some top targets in the 2025 class from North Carolina and Virginia. We’ll see which of these players move up the Tigers’ board over the next year.
