LSU hosting another Transfer Portal DL target

LSU hosting another Transfer Portal DL target

The LSU football staff has a need for defensive linemen from the NCAA Transfer Portal, and now the Tigers will host another portal target.

On Wednesday, Indiana transfer Philip Blidi will arrive on campus to begin his LSU visit in Baton Rouge, he tells On3.

Blidi is coming off a 2023 season with the Hoosies where he played in 12 games with 11 starts, logging 30 tackles, four tackles for loss, two quarterback hurries and a pass breakup.

Prior to his 2023 season at Indiana, Blidi spent three seasons at Texas Tech. During his time with the Red Raiders, he appeared in 34 games and posted 39 tackles, six tackles for a loss and two sacks.

Blidi is coming off a visit to Washington, and now he’s shuffled up his visit plans, telling On3’s Pete Nakos that a visit to Arizona has been called off.

The 6-foot-3, 295-pound defensive lineman will now take in a mid-week trip to LSU, then visit Oklahoma from April 19 to 21.

Texas A&M and Auburn are two more programs pushing to land a visit from Blidi, who told The Bengal Tiger staff that LSU will be a key trip on his quest to find a new college as a graduate transfer.

“At the end of the day, I want to win a championship,” Blidi said. “Want to win a natty, I want to win a conference championship. There are not a lot of schools that you can go and do that at, and there’s a select few of schools that are going to do that this year. LSU’s one of those schools.”

LSU has already landed one defensive tackle from the NCAA Transfer Portal with the addition of Wisconsin’s Gio Paez.

Paez appeared in 13 games with six starts at Wisconsin this past season. He ended the year with 23 total tackles and a pair of quarterback hurries. At 6-foot-3, 310 pounds, Paez has played in 32 games and logged 36 tackles for Wisconsin across the past three seasons.

With just two returning scholarship defensive tackles from the 2023 season (Jacobian Guillory and Jalen Lee), LSU is looking to add at least two defensive tackles from the portal. Paez and Blidi are both graduate transfers, meaning they can enter the portal outside of the two portal windows. The NCAA’s Spring Transfer Portal opens on April 13 and closes on April 30.
