LSU Elite Camp recruiting notebook

LSU welcomed a pair of the best quarterbacks in the country to campus for Friday’s Elite Camp. The Tigers also hosted some key targets and commits for the camp.
Here’s the rundown on how things went in the second to last summer camp for Brian Kelly & Co.
*** Five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood was as advertised, whipping the ball through the wind at LSU camp. Underwood got a chance to throw inside Tiger Stadium, a cool moment for the nation’s No. 1 overall prospect. Quarterbacks coach Joe Sloan continues to push for the Michigan prospect and the Tigers are firmly in the mix here. LSU could be considered the favorite, at least from what I hear, entering the fall.
Bryce was accompanied by his dad and mom, who didn’t visit the first time around. His mom’s birthday is being celebrated on this trip as well, something his dad felt would be fun for them to do. It seems like Underwood will indeed take things into the fall right now. He’s eyeing visits to the likes of Alabama, Georgia, Oregon, USC and many others. I don’t expect a decision until early 2024, according to a source.
*** Nashville Christian (Tenn.) quarterback Jared Curtis is one of two signal callers with offers from Sloan in the 2026 class. He looked the part throwing the ball around. He’s a big prospect who has the strength already to make every throw. He didn’t look out of place at all throwing alongside Underwood.
*** 2026 Tampa (Fla.) Jesuit quarterback Will Griffin also looked the part of a high-profile quarterback. He holds offers from Florida, Florida State, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State and numerous others. Griffin was another prospect who shined with opportunities. He didn’t leave with an offer, but he’s squarely on LSU’s radar as one to watch.
*** LSU commits Dashawn McBryde and Ju’Juan Johnson also worked out at defensive back in camp, and both impressed. Johnson was all over the field making plays. He got beat in a couple of 1-on-1s, but made his mark in 7-on-7. McBryde also had a really nice 7-on-7 portion as well. He’s a rangy prospect who could be moved into the box for LSU as well as back there at safety. He had multiple breakups in the 7-on-7 portion.
*** 2026 Pensacola (Fla.) Pine Forest athlete Zion Legree worked out at wide receiver and had a couple nice plays. In a receiver room that lacked star power, the sophomore who has a few offers under his belt looked like a true FBS prospect.
*** 2025 Houston (Tex.) North Shore linebacker Charles Ross really impressed. He holds an Arkansas State offer already. LSU had him in camping and was the top linebacker working out in Matt House’s group. He’s a prospect on the rise heading into his junior season.
