LSU checks in on a top defensive back target

LSU checked in on one of Corey Raymond’s top defensive back targets on Wednesday as the Tigers look to retool the cornerback room. 2025 Columbia (S.C.) Heathwood Hall High School four-star cornerback Onis Konanbanny was visited by Raymond.

Along with LSU, Auburn (which offered Wednesday) and South Carolina were among the schools checking in on spring practice this week.

He transferred to Heathwood last year from Rabun Gap (Ga.) Nacoochee School. Florida State, LSU, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee and USC all made his top 10 earlier this year.

“I have great relationships with all those schools,” Konanbanny told On3. “Each school plays great defense, develops cornerbacks like me, and most importantly, offers great degrees that can set me up for life. Those are the reasons those 10 schools are on top.”

He is the nation’s No. 305 overall prospect and No. 27 cornerback in the 2025 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 4 recruit in South Carolina.

As he works toward a decision, he will focus on multiple aspects when looking at each school. LSU is among the schools he’s looking at for an official visit. North Carolina, which has an official visit set for June 7, leads the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. Utah’s already hosted him while Penn State and Tennessee get him to campus after North Carolina.

“First, the relationship, with not just the staff but the school,” Konanbanny said. “I have to have a great relationship with everybody, my teammates, I have to feel like this is going to be a fun place to be and somewhere that can develop me into a man on and off the field. Third, academics, and fourth, a place that can get me to the NFL.”
