LSU baseball staffer Brent Haring to be next head coach at Nicholls State

LSU baseball director of operations Brent Haring will be the next head coach at Nicholls State, according to a report on Tuesday from D1 Baseball.

Haring was the associate head coach at BYU before he was hired as the LSU Baseball Director of Operations prior to this season.

Haring was promoted to associate head coach in June 2022. He coordinated the BYU recruiting operation, worked with the infielders and supervised team defense for 10 seasons.

Haring was part of a staff at BYU that developed 34 All-West Coast Conference honorees, nine All-Region honorees, five Freshman All-Americans and three All-Americans. He coached 19 players selected in the MLB Draft, including three — Jacob Hanneman, Jaycob Brugman and Michael Rucker — who have recently spent time in the majors.

The news of Haring’s departure comes as LSU brings back its former director of baseball operations. Josh Simpson, the director of baseball operations for LSU’s 2023 National Championship team, is returning to the Tigers as assistant coach, head coach Jay Johnson announced Monday. He spent the past season at Georgia.

Prior to BYU, Haring was an assistant coach at Utah Tech for three seasons. He has also coached at Harding University, Mount Olive College, College of the Ozarks and Southern Virginia.

A native of St. George, Utah, Haring and his wife Mary have two sons, Tomasi and Nikolao.

Haring is the second LSU staffer to depart for a job this offseason. Terry Rooney joined former LSU coach Paul Mainieri in South Carolina as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator.
