Local DL impressed by Miami visit, looking to set up Hurricanes OV: “I can just see (Cristobal’s) vision, and I can see Miami getting there”

2024 Miami Edison defensive lineman Dinellson Exume returned to the University of Miami for the first time since receiving an offer from the Hurricanes and described his time on campus as surreal.

“When I walked in, I had butterflies and thought this is somewhere I could see myself,” Exume told CaneSport. “It opened up my eyes a little bit more. I’ve never had an opportunity, but now that I see everything, staying home might be the right move. I’m not going to say too much, but staying home might be the place.”

The three-star prospect according to the On3 Industry Rankings, has seen his recruitment pick up as of late and says Miami is in the mix with some of his top programs that include the likes of Florida, Florida State, and Minnesota after this recent visit.

“This time was a different feeling coming in, with people recognizing me and checking in with me,” Exume said. “I felt very welcomed, at home, and comfortable. With me, it’s all about being comfortable and being able to just be myself around here.”

The 6-foot-3, 242-pound player said the Hurricanes’ practices were some of the most intense he had ever witnessed and was quite impressed with what he saw.

“Just the competitiveness and the intensity,” Exume said. “It stood out to me because I’ve been in competitive areas, but it’s never been that intense. Everyone was just going at it. Not just one person, but the whole team going at it. It was great to see and great to watch.”

Exume spent extensive time with both Miami head coach Mario Cristobal and defensive line coach Jason Taylor and went in-depth about what stood out after each conversation.

“He (Cristobal) was just real and gave me some type of reassurance,” Exume said. “He told me that while we may be here right now, we’re going to get there eventually. It’s going to skyrocket from here, and I feel like he has a vision and knows what he is doing. He’s a man with a plan, and I can just see his vision, and I can just see Miami getting there.”

Regarding Taylor, Exume says the two clicked right away and loves the idea of potentially playing under an NFL Hall of Famer.

“It was a great conversation with coach Taylor, and it felt like we knew each other from somewhere,” Exume said. “I don’t want to sound cliche, but it just felt like we were tight. He was very cool, and we just clicked and kicked it off.”

CaneSport’s take

Exume has yet to decide which programs he will take his official visits to … but Miami is currently looking like a real contender to land one of the five. “Official visits might be in the summer,” Exume said. “I know I will be committing probably during or at the end of my senior season.” Miami is making a great impression on Exume, who is slowly making a name for himself in the South Florida football scene and will look to carry that momentum into his senior season this fall.
