HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Tennessee and Southern Miss baseball will get going again Sunday morning in Super Regional play, completing game one before taking on a deciding game two of the best of a three-game series.
Saturday’s game one was suspended in the bottom of the fifth inning following two lengthy weather delays. Southern Miss was leading 4-0 and the game will resume at noon eastern time with one away and a runner on first base for Tennessee’s Christian Scott. Game two of the series will follow at 3 pm ET or 55 minutes after the conclusion of game one, if it runs long.
Andrew Lindsey was not himself Saturday as the Tennessee starter for game one, allowing the four runs off six hits – giving up two home runs in the process. The righty struck out four and walked one over 78 pitches (52 strikes).
Tate Parker drove in two runs on a triple to centerfield in the first while Dustin Dickerson and Nick Monistere registered solo home runs in the third and fourth innings, respectively. Billy Oldham was rolling, allowing just one hit over 3.2 innings pitched with four strikeouts and no walks for Southern Miss.
The completion of game one will be of great importance as 79 percent of teams who win the supers opener go on to reach the College world series. Chase Dollander (6-5, 4.50 ERA) and Tanner Hall (12-3, 2.08 ERA) were originally projected game two starters for both programs while TBA was listed for Monday’s game three – if necessary.
