LISTEN: Ole Miss football is officially back this week

Ole Miss football returns this week with Media Day and the first practices of fall camp.

Harry Harrison serves as the color analyst for the Ole Miss Radio Network. He joins this Monday (July 29, 2024) edition of the ‘Rebel Yell Hotline’ to discuss the preseason ahead.

The Rebels open with Furman August 31.

“Ole Miss has just never been in this position,” Harrison said. The Rebels are a consensus Top 10 team entering the year. “Brought some more players in (on defense). Lost some cornerbacks, but we brought in some guys. I think we have four legit corners now.

“We know Ole Miss is going to score points with Lane Kiffin’s offense. But they’ve padded that defensive front and those linebackers and secondary, too. They’re going to be a much better defensive team.”

Ole Miss signed the nation’s No. 3 portal class.

Actually, 18 of the Rebels’ starting-22 are transfers.

The cornerbacks Harrison was referencing are Isaiah Hamilton (Houston), Trey Amos (Alabama), Brandon Turnage (Tennessee) and Chris Graves (Miami).

Harrison, a former Ole Miss defensive back himself, was asked what he’s going to be watching once practices open.

“I like to watch 7-on-7,” Harrison said. “That’s when ones are against ones. That’s about halfway through practice when they do that. I expect this year for our corners to be good enough to play man on the outside, which will allow us to bring some pressure on the quarterback, regardless of who we’re playing. I hope to be able to see that (in the preseason).”
