LISTEN: Five things I learned at Ole Miss football practice this week

Anything Ole Miss gets from Deion Smith early on this season is a bonus. Ayden Williams is the next Braylon Sanders. TJ Dottery is a break-out candidate to watch on defense.

Williams is running with the first-team offense opposite Tre Harris. Cayden Lee is in the slot. Williams and Lee are second-year receivers.

Williams saw action in 11 games (one start) last season.

He played 125 total snaps (123 on offense) and record four catches for 80 yards.

Lee came on late, including his first Ole Miss start in the Peach Bowl. He finished with five catches for 114 yards and two touchdowns on 136 total offensive snaps.

“We’ve both grown tremendously since Year 1,” Williams said after practice on Friday. Smith still isn’t practicing. Juice Wells has been in and out due to injury, as have Jordan Watkins, Isaiah Hartrup and Jordan Smart.

“The biggest challenge for me was getting all the information and being locked in on every small, key detail. That’s what’s going to win your ballgames. Starting to recognize coverages and things like that. Knowing where the ball is probably going pre-snap or post-snap just based on the look.”

“Knowledge is what we get every day in the meeting room,” Williams said. “Every day they’re passing on little nuggets — Tre (Harris), J-Wat, Juice. Everybody in the room is passing on knowledge and we’re soaking it up.”
