Life After Ball at SMU catches eyes of 2025 DT Chace Sims

2025 Rosenberg (Tex.) Randle defensive lineman Chace Sims is a top priority for SMU defensive line coach Calvin Thibodeaux. He was back on the Hilltop for the Pony Express Weekend, getting another look at the program.

“The visit was great,” Sims told On3. “Seeing the city of Dallas and all the wonderful family that SMU has built, it was amazing. You can tell from the environment, it’s very family oriented and I love that.”

Sims was impressed with the Life After Ball presentation the coaching staff shared with panelists.

“The connections you can build being here and the Life After Ball, you’re going to be straight even if you don’t make it to the league, but that’s everybody’s goal is they made that known that you will be fine and Life After Ball situation is great.”

Thibodeaux shared more on how he teaches his players, which caught Sims’ eyes. The Mustangs are in need of defensive linemen.

“Coach Thibs is great,” Sims said. “One piece that really stuck out with him is his teaching and his coaching. How he breaks down every move. Everything is simple for him so you can play fast. Me and coach Thibs’ relationship is really great. He tells me he really wants me and he wants to coach me. That’s exciting.”

The Mustangs reeled in a few commits and that had the 6-3, 305-pounder thinking about a commitment.

“A little bit, I was kind of itching to sign that rock, too,” he said. “I will definitely be looking forward to what SMU has to offer.”

Sims will also officially visit Washington May 30, TCU June 7, Texas Tech June 14, Kansas June 19 and Texas A&M June 21. The Mustangs lead the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine as he churns toward a decision after his visits.

“It’s been going great. I’m just enjoying it all. The biggest thing with me is just evaluating the schools and seeing what’s the best fit for me. I’m taking my time because I don’t plan on decommitting and all that. I’m locked in.”

According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Sims ranks as the No. 59 overall defensive lineman in America and No. 107 prospect in Texas.
