Leveling Up? Tre Harris has Lane Kiffin’s vote for Ole Miss camp ‘Most Improved’
Now-fifth-year Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin was asked Monday the players he’d classify as ‘Most Improved’ through a little over two weeks of preseason practices.
His answer went in a surprising direction.
See, Kiffin didn’t go with an up-and-comer like Cayden Lee. He didn’t even offer up Jordan Watkins, the rehabbing veteran, who appears to be rounding into form.
No, Kiffin only had praise for Tre Harris, the Rebels’ star senior wide receiver.
“I would put Tre Harris in that group, which is saying a lot,” Kiffin said. “Basically a 1,000-yard receiver despite missing some games. He’s really had a great mindset all off-season.”
Harris set a new single-game school record for receiving touchdowns (4) last season and finished as one of three Rebel wideouts with 700 or more receiving yards. He was the leading receiver with 54 catches for 985 yards and eight touchdowns.
Harris and many other accomplished Ole Miss veterans put off the NFL Draft in the off-season to chase a title with the Rebels in 2024-25. Harris is a formertransfer from Louisiana Tech.
“Sometimes guys come back and they’re a little comfortable and kind of going through the motions because they know they’re supposed to have this big season,” Kiffin said. “He’s really pushed himself out there.”
“Everybody knows, really, that big goal is a national championship,” Harris said back in the spring. “That’s sitting in the back of everybody’s heads.”

Harris was chatting with his Rebel teammate, star defensive lineman Jared Ivey.
Ivey hosts the ‘Ivey League’ exclusively on the Ole Miss Spirit. A new episode with guest Brandon Turnage releases on Thursday. Turnage is an Oxford native and transfer Tennessee. He played previously at Alabama as well.
“Everybody is not necessarily feeling the pressure,” Harris said. “Moreso embracing it. We’ve got the team. We’ve got the pieces. Let’s go out there and execute and become a team like we’re supposed to be.”
Kiffin’s enjoyed taking in the daily competition between Harris and Alabama transfer cornerback Trey Amos.
“It’s really cool to see,” Kiffin said. “They’re both highly-motivated, competitive individuals. It’s really exciting to have (Harris). This has a chance to be a really special year for him.”
Kiffin, Amos and Lee all met the media following practice on Monday. The included videos were all provided by Ole Miss Athletics.
