Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss ‘stand good’ with 2025 four-star QB Deuce Knight

Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss ‘stand good’ with 2025 four-star QB Deuce Knight

Four-star 2025 quarterback Deuce Knight seems all but on a glide path to signing with Notre Dame in December.

But, as Knight explained in a one-on-one sit-down with On3’s JD PicKell at the On3 Elite Series, college football is a business. He has to protect himself. It’s why he continues to engage with schools such as Ole Miss, Alabama and Colorado.

The in-state Rebels are probably the biggest threat to the Irish, if there is one.

“They stand good,” Knight said. “You know, Ole Miss, they’re steady hitting me up. They let me know they’re not going to stop until I put pen to paper. It’s been great.

“They’ve got (head) coach (Lane) Kiffin there. I think that kind of speaks for itself. He’s an offensive mastermind. In his systems, he’s not scared to start a freshman. Jalen Hurts started with him (at Alabama). It’s been good.”

Knight is ranked as the nation’s No. 54 overall prospect by the On3 Industry Ranking. He’s the No. 7 quarterback and the No. 3 prospect in Mississippi. Knight accounted for 28 touchdowns across 10 games and two schools last season. He threw just two interceptions.

The Rebels won a program-record 11 games in 2023-24 and return third-year starting quarterback Jaxson Dart for a title chase in 2024. Dart has the has sixth-best odds at the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Dart, though, is entering his final season.

The on-campus candidates to replace him are former top prospects Walker Howard, Austin Simmons and Anthony Maddox. Howard and Simmons were four-star recruits.

Knight, meanwhile, threw for 1,420 yards and 15 touchdowns in seven games for George County. He rushed 340 yards and eight touchdowns. He’ll take an official to Notre Dame June 14-16.

“I’m fully committed to Notre Dame,” the 6-foot-4 1/2, 208-pound Knight told PicKell. “Right now, that’s where I’m going. But I’m just not going to just stop communication.

“College football is a business (and) you never know what crazy things might happen and then you’ll be like, ‘Oh, man, I’m out in the water.’ You never know what can happen.”

Notre Dame accounts for 37.1 percent of Knight’s RPM projections. Ole Miss, however, is a close second at 27.9 percent, with Tennessee (16.1) in third and Alabama (3.6) in fourth.

“Ole Miss doesn’t have all its eggs in the Deuce Knight basket,” said Steve Wiltfong, On3’s Vice President of Recruiting and Transfer Portal. “I talked to KJ Lacey and his family; Texas commit out of Alabama. He said Ole Miss, they’ve had some dialogue with them.

“We’ll see what Ole Miss does at the quarterback position here in the cycle.”
