Kirby Smart reacts to Georgia’s quick start against Kentucky

Georgia didn’t wait to bury Kentucky on Saturday night. Before the ‘Cats could put a point on the board, UGA shoveled three touchdowns on top of Kentucky. In the end, the Bulldogs walked away with a blowout 51-13 win and a Kirby Smart smile.

“I mean we haven’t done it, and we’ve still won,” Smart said after the game. “It certainly helps the start fast, to do things well, to play well, to have a good plan and execute the plan, but it doesn’t mean that the times we didn’t the plan wasn’t good. We just didn’t always execute it. We played well offensively, especially tonight, and executed well. That definitely helps momentum-wise.”

There’s no way to describe Georgia’s performance other than dominant. In the win, the Bulldogs picked up 31 first downs while amassing 608 total yards of offense. For reference, Kentucky recorded just 183 total yards.

The mass of Georgia’s offensive barrage came in the passing game. The Bulldogs boasts 435 passing yards against Kentucky, the most against a UK team led by Mark Stoops. Georgia had possession of the ball for nearly two-thirds of the game.

Kirby Smart thanks crowd for Georgia’s hot start

Smart gave credit to Georgia’s fans for the electric opening to the game.

“The crowd was electric,” Smart said. “It was great to have that kind of atmosphere which we’ve had throughout the year. The fans have been really consistent and done a really good job for us. That helps our players, and I thought our players started fast. The offensive staff had a great plan and executed the plan, but at the end of the day, the ability to run the ball opens things up and gives you the ability to do a lot of things offensively which we were able to do.

“We probably didn’t get Kentucky’s best shot. I know they’ve got a better team than the one we played tonight, but in the SEC, humility is a week away. I’ve always said it, it’s a mantra I’ve had my whole life, and humility is always one week away in terms of your preparation, just like for us next week.”

Georgia has not been humbled in an extraordinary amount of time. Georgia is the No. 1 team in the country, has won back-to-back national championships and hasn’t lost a game since Dec. 4, 2021. With the schedule ahead, Georgia fans shouldn’t expect a los anytime soon.

Next weekend, the Bulldogs will face off against the Vanderbilt Commodores at noon ET. The game will be broadcast on CBS.
