Kentucky’s Seven Home Runs Propel Wildcats to Two Saturday Wins
It might be chilly in Atlanta, but Kentucky softball was heating it up all day long. The Wildcats won both games on Saturday starting with a 9-1 run-rule win against Memphis. They ended the day with a 16-6 win against Georgia Tech in which the Wildcats hit six of their seven home runs on the day.
Full Team Effort For The Cats
Kentucky run-ruled the Memphis Tigers 9-1 in five innings to start their doubleheader action on Saturday. It was a full team effort as 12 players were utilized en route to the win.
Head coach Rachel Lawson continued to move some players around in the lineup in this game, seeing which players will rise to the occasion. In the 1st inning, it seemed that everyone stepped up to the challenge, scoring five runs off the bat.
It all started with a 2 RBI single from Karissa Hamilton off the fence, who was put in as the designated player for the game. Then, Ella Emmert, who has seen limited playing time this season, drew a walk with the bases loaded for a run. Two passed balls later, and the Wildcats had a five-run lead.
Two familiar faces in the lineup, freshmen Julie Kelley and Allie Blum, continue to impress in their freshman campaigns.
Kelley pitched all five innings against Memphis, only allowing three hits with four strikeouts. Blum scorched a 3-run HR over the left field wall in the 4th inning to put Kentucky up by eight, her second home run of the year.
It will be interesting to see what lineups Lawson will be using in the near future. After a disappointing week at the Clearwater Invitational, the lineups have been changing slightly each game this weekend at the I-75 Tournament.
Home Run Frenzy
Kentucky swept their doubleheader with a 16-6 win over Georgia Tech. The Wildcats put on a hitting clinic, boasting six home runs, two from Cassie Reasner.
The 2nd inning is when the home runs started to rain down. Reasner, Lauren Borzilleri, and Peyton Plotts all homered in the inning putting Kentucky up by seven early.
Onto the 4th inning, Karissa Hamilton and Hallie Mitchell homered as well. This was Mitchell’s first career home run at Kentucky.
Reasner hit her second home run of the day in the 7th inning. The sophomore now has three home runs on the season.
It was a great upgrade in offensive performance for the Wildcats on Saturday. Kentucky put up 25 runs, more than they scored all last weekend in five games. The team has been up and down this season offensively and will look to use this momentum to close out the weekend.

Kentucky will finish the weekend on Sunday against Kennesaw State at 11:30 a.m. EST. The game can be streamed on ESPN+.
