Kentucky Softball Earns Midweek Win Over Eastern Kentucky

Kentucky softball picked up the victory over in-state foe Eastern Kentucky University 5-1 on Wednesday evening in Richmond. The win ended a three-game losing streak for the Wildcats, which now have a 28-20 (22-8 non-conference) record on the season
The Drought Ends
Coming into the game, Kentucky had a scoring drought of 17 straight innings without a run. The Wildcats continued that streak to 21 innings before getting a run in the fifth inning against EKU.
It was Madyson Clark who knocked in the run for the Wildcats with a RBI double. Kentucky went on to score three more runs in the fifth inning to give itself a comfortable 3-0 lead late in the game.
Eastern Kentucky earned its only run of the night on a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the fifth. Other than that, Sarah Haendiges stifled the Colonels’ offense in her five innings of work. She finished with four strikeouts.
Kentucky extended its lead back to three with a RBI sac-fly from Emory Donaldson in the sixth.
To finish things off, Peyton Plotts soared a ball over the right field wall for her 12th home run of the season. The solo shot was also her 44th RBI on the year.
Weekend Schedule
Kentucky will host their last home series of the season over the weekend against Mississippi State. It’s senior weekend for the Wildcats, celebrating senior night before their game on Saturday at John Cropp Stadium.
Kentucky could really use a SEC series win this weekend, not only for the senior send-off, but for their confidence and conference standings. The ‘Cats have gone 1-8 over the last three SEC series.
