Kansas State official visit checks off all the boxes for four-star WR

The first trio of Kansas State official visitors were defensive end Triston Abram of St. Louis, South Dakota defensive end Shawn Hammerbeck and Texas-based wide receiver Jalen Cooper. For Cooper, it was his first time in Manhattan and he came away very impressed.

“It was great meeting the coaching staff and some of the incoming freshmen on campus,” he said. “It was also good to see the facilities. They made me feel like I was part of their family.”

One moment in particular stood out to Cooper.

“I’d have to say going fishing with Coach [Matthew] Middleton,” he replied. “Being able to compete with him stood out because we had a competition going on. He also got to know me outside of football and we talked about how I would fit in the offense. It meant a lot because he knew I liked fishing and he fit that into the schedule. He caught more fish because he stole my spot (laughed).”

K-State running back Dylan Edwards was the host of the On3 Industry Ranked four-star prospect.

“It was good because he was down-to-earth and easy to talk to,” Cooper pointed out. “We had a great conversation about life, football and plus I beat him in Madden.”

Cooper was able to learn a lot about Kansas State over the weekend.

“I learned that they are very detailed in their approach to the game of football,” he shared. “They really care about the team and treat everyone like family. They want you to succeed on and off the field. It was definitely a 10 because they checked all the boxes and they were good to my family.”

While in the Little Apple he was also able to meet K-State offensive coordinator Conor Riley for the first time.

“Man he is very passionate about football,” Cooper explained. “I can tell he really gets after it in film study. Riley said he likes my speed and how I can take the top off defenses, which fits perfect in what he likes to do.”

The Texan has also taken an official visit to SMU.

“I would say with Kansas State I got to feel the college town atmosphere,” Cooper revealed. “If there was an edge it would have to go to Kansas State because of how they fitted fishing into the schedule. They went outside the box.”

Cooper is planning on committing to a school in early July. He still has official visits left to Kansas June 7, Baylor June 14 and Texas A&M June 21.

“I would say I’m looking forward to seeing if they can keep the momentum going on,” he noted. “If they are the same in person like they are on the phone.”
