Kansas guard Shakeel Moore enters NCAA transfer portal

Kansas guard Shakeel Moore enters NCAA transfer portal

Kansas guard Shakeel Moore has entered the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned. He did so after just one year with the Jayhawks.

Moore transferred to Kansas ahead of the 2024-25 season from Mississippi State. He had previously spent three years with the Bulldogs after beginning his career at NC State.

This past season, Moore averaged 3.6 points and 1.7 rebounds per game. He was plagued by injuries, playing in only 20 games and starting nine of them.

He had considerably larger impact at Mississippi State, where he was an on-and-off starter for three seasons. During his final year with the Bulldogs, Shakeel Moore averaged 7.9 points and 2.2 rebounds per game. He shot 36.3% from 3-point range, the best mark of his career.

Bottom line: Shakeel Moore can play when he’s healthy. He’ll almost definitely find a willing suitor in the NCAA transfer portal.

Prior to enrolling at NC State in 2020-21, Shakeel Moore was ranked as a four-star prospect and the No. 115 overall recruit in the nation in the On3 Industry Rankings. He also checked in as the No. 8 combo guard in the class and the No. 6 overall player from the state of North Carolina, hailing from Greensboro (NC) Moravian Prep.

Kansas lands a guard from the transfer portal

Kansas might already have Shakeel Moore’s replacement found. St. Bonaventure transfer guard Melvin Council was searching for a new home in the transfer portal. On3 has learned he’s found it, choosing to join the Kansas Jayhawks.

Multiple other teams were interested in his services, like the Mississippi State Bulldogs, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and Georgia Bulldogs. It’s easy to see why, as he averaged 14.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.1 assists this past season. It was his second season of college basketball, after he spent his first with Wagner.

Originally, Council thought it was in his best interest to return to St. Bonaventure. Evidently, something changed for the star guard, and he entered the transfer portal. Then, there were a myriad of teams that courted him for the 2025-26 season, and Kansas won out.

On3’s Steve Samra also contributed to this report.
