Ka’Mori Moore Brings Sooners Real Pass-Rushing Presence

The Sooners Under the Stars event was a showcase for some of OU’s top young prospects. But it wasn’t expected to be a big commitment evening for the Sooners. However, sometimes plans change and Oklahoma got some big news when Lee’s Summit (Mo.) North defensive lineman Ka’Mori Moore picked Oklahoma.
What’s on Tape for Ka’Mori Moore
For years and years Brent Venables‘s defense has been at it’s best with high-quality interior defensive lineman. Their hope is, undoubtedly, that Moore can be that next one in line. The Sooners latest commitment is a guy who excels at getting underneath blockers and using his powerful lower body to drive offensive linemen off the ball. As he continues to work on his pad level that aspect of his game, already strong, figures to get better.
Oklahoma’s defense has done well with one-tech defensive tackles who can create some pressure – something Moore shows an ability to do. Not only does his strength make it difficult to deal with Moore one-on-one but his easy burst makes him a danger as a pass rusher.
Unlike a lot of young defensive lineman Moore does seem to do a good job keeping his eyes in the backfield. As he pushes the pocket he keeps his eyes on the quarterback and shows, time and time again, the ability to get his hands into passing lanes. Moore isn’t the tallest guy but if he can interrupt some throws, particularly between the hashes, that’s a huge win for the Sooners.
Moore looks at his most comfortable playing as a one-tech, which makes it easy to see where he fits for Oklahoma. But his strength, balance, and short-area burst make for a player who can move around the interior. As he gets better and better with his pad level and gets stronger with his hands, he’ll see his stock rise as a run defender as well as a pass rusher.
Sooners Commit Comparison
There’s some comparison here to former Sooners defensive tackle Lynn McGruder.
