Kaiden Prothro, country’s No. 2 tight end, plans on visiting UF

Kaiden Prothro is amassing offers left and right. And it makes sense as to why. The 2026 tight end from Bowdon (Ga.) has a frame the college staffs covet. Plus, he’s coming off a huge sophomore season.

To date, he has around 30 offers.

And … “Nobody is too late. A school is a school to me,” Prothro told Gators Online.

Recently, the Florida Gators entered the mix for the 6-foot-6.5, 210-pound Prothro. He’s the No. 2 tight end and No. 33 overall recruit in the class of 2026 for the On3 Industry Rankings.

Last season, Prothro recorded 33 catches for 831 yards and 13 touchdowns. That’s an ultra-impressive 25.2 yards per catch.

Prothro never has visited the Gators, but hopes to change that in the near future.

“I plan on going up there,” he said. “(Florida co-offensive coordinator and tight ends coach Russ Callaway) talked to me and was telling me he likes me and how he’s trying to get me up there. Seeing what Kyle Pitts did at Florida, that just showed me there’s a good opportunity to go there, show my skills and be a first-rounder.”

At this time, Prothro has no top schools, he said.

Several schools are recruiting Kaiden Prothro hard

When asked who was recruiting him hardest, he named a who’s who of big-name programs: “Notre Dame, Georgia, Alabama, Clemson — they’re on me pretty hard right now. FSU, Florida, Ole Miss, Auburn, LSU.”

It’s still fairly early in his recruitment, but Prothro already has an idea of what he wants in a school.

“I’m going to be looking for a place that shows me that I can express my talents on the field and just be who I am with the potential for me to make it to the league,” Prothro said. “And just a family with the football team.”

Soon after the Gators offered, Prothro said he would do some research into them.

“It makes me want to look at them a lot different,” he said. “I’ve always seen Florida on Twitter, but I’d never really heard anything. Now that I have, maybe we’ll make something happen. (If he visits) I’m going to be looking at how the coaches treat their players and how the coaches treat each other. I want to see what the connection is like with everybody.”

The offer “means a lot because a place like Florida produces some great players,” he added.

SIDE NOTE: According to Prothro, he’s a distant relative of former Alabama star receiver Tyrone Prothro. Tragically, Tyrone Prothro sustained what ended up being a career-ending injury vs. the Gators in 2005. Per Wikipedia, “Prothro made a leaping attempt to catch a pass from Brodie Croyle. As Prothro came back down to the turf, Florida Gators cornerback Dee Webb, while attempting to break up the pass, landed on Prothro’s lower left leg which snapped it completely in half. This resulted in a complete break of Prothro’s tibia and fibula. During the game’s broadcast, play-by-play announcer Verne Lundquist compared the injury to former NFL quarterback Joe Theismann‘s infamous leg break suffered during a Monday Night Football game in 1985. After 11 extensive surgeries, doctors were not able to repair Prothro’s leg to the extent of furthering his playing career. On August 3, 2007, he was placed on a medical hardship scholarship and taken off the football roster with coach Nick Saban saying there was no way Prothro could play again.”
