Ju’Juan Johnson has a message for Louisiana’s top recruits

Ju’Juan Johnson has a message for Louisiana’s top recruits

LSU has commitments from 18 recruits in the 2024 recruiting class, and 13 are from the state of Louisiana.

With 72% of the class from the Bayou State, LSU head coach Brian Kelly and the staff are sending a clear message this cycle.

Louisiana is priority No. 1, and current commitments like Lafayette four-star Ju’Juan Johnson are taking notice.

“We want the best out your STATE and for the guys in our STATE, 72% is from the Boot, STAY HOME so we can go on a World Tour and bring back a Natty to the Boot!,” Johnson posted to his Twitter account following LSU’s addition of North Carolina Top 100 prospect Ethan Calloway.

Johnson now at home following his commitment flip

Johnson is one of the state’s most well-known high school football players, shining at quarterback for Lafayette Christian Academy – one of Louisiana’s most successful programs over the past decade.

When he committed to Colorado and new head coach Deion Sanders, Johnson was the lone Louisiana prospect in the state’s Top 10 who committed to an out-of-state program.

By April, he had pressed the reset button on his recruitment by backing off the verbal pledge.

“Everything was great with Colorado, but i just felt like i made my decision too soon and didn’t base it on things that really matter to me,” Johnson told On3.

A few weeks later, the four-star revealed he was shutting down his recruitment for good. This time, his choice was to stay home and play for the Tigers.

“Every time I go there, it’s family,” Johnson said. “Every time I text them, it’s like I’m a part of their family and already a part of the environment there.”

LSU has Johnson as a key recruiter in the Bayou State

With Johnson now part of LSU’s 2024 recruiting class, he joins an 18-man commitment list that offers up 13 recruits from Louisiana.

The most recent in-state addition came when John Curtis wide receiver Michael Turner earned an offer after multiple LSU camp stops in June, and he didn’t let the month end without committing to what he called his “dream school”.

“It hits different when you want to be here (at LSU),” Johnson said following Turner’s addition to the class.

With 13 in-state commitments on board, that number is expected to grow before National Signing Day.

With in-state offers out to the likes of John Ehret’s Wardell Mack, Acadiana’s Dominick McKinley, Many’s Tylen Singleton and LCA’s Melvin Hills, plus senior season evaluations and potential new offers to come, the Tigers have a chance to continue to sweep up the top recruits in Louisiana this cycle.

For Johnson, the mission is to continue helping the staff make the pitch to the top targets who remain uncommitted entering their senior seasons.

“I’m really just reminding them that we’re special being from here,” Johnson said. “We’re built different. And what better place to show it at (than LSU)?”
