Joshua Ofor locks in first NC State visit, planning pair of OVs

NC State started showing interest in Joshua Ofor this spring. His recruitment continued to pick up momentum from there, and the 6-2, 210-pound linebacker picked up his second Power Five scholarship offer from the Wolfpack.

Now, he is planning on visiting Raleigh twice within the next few months.

Even though he has never been on campus before, NC State is already checking a few boxes. The Wolfpack and defensive coordinator Tony Gibson caught his interest, and the Jonesboro (Ga.) Mundy’s Mill High athlete will be in attendance for the July 28 Alpha Wolf Showcase.

“Obviously, I like the state,” Ofor said. “North Carolina is kind of close to home, not too far, and I like how they run a 3-3-5 defense right now. I’ve been seeing stuff about how coach Gibson is one of the best coaches for the linebacker position.”

Ofor plays in a 3-3-5 defense at the high school level and said he enjoys the opportunities to make plays in space. He spends time on the edge and plays a little bit of safety with Mundy’s Mill.

From their early conversations, he already has a good impression of Gibson.

“I really like how he’s a straightforward person,” Ofor said. “I watched the games, and I just like how the linebackers look. I know they are coached well and all that too.”

When he makes his first trip to NC State later this month, Ofor will focus on everything off the field. A good football program is a bonus, but he is looking for the university that fits him the best.

“I’m going to see how they treated me,” Ofor said. “Is it a family? Is it more than football? And then, I’ll just mainly see if I enjoy the whole campus.”

On the field, he hopes to learn more about how he would fit into the Wolfpack’s scheme.

Academics are super important to Ofor, who hopes to major in exercise science. He said that will likely be the No. 1 factor that separates one school from the rest when he is ready to make his commitment.

As the linebacker approaches a fall commitment, he said NC State, Ole Miss, who offered in June as well, and ECU make his top schools list. He officially visited the Pirates and said they are the most impressive of Group of Five program he has seen.

Ofor also stopped by Ole Miss unofficially this summer, and he plans on returning for an official visit in the fall. He will do the same with NC State. The class of 2024 prospect hopes to make his collegiate decision during his senior season.

“I’m thinking about September-ish or early October,” Ofor said.

The linebacker is unranked by On3, but 247Sports considers him a three-star prospect. East Carolina leads his Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) at 77.3 percent.
