Josh Dobbs shining in preseason vs. Saints

San Francisco backup quarterback Josh Dobbs has been known as one of the more electrifying players in the league. While he’s not currently a starting quarterback, Dobbs has been no stranger to shining out in the preseason the past few years, including during his time with the Cleveland Browns. He’s even had his share of moments during the regular season at times. And he’s at it again on Sunday evening once again taking advantage of the preseason snaps with a chance to impress.

At the half against the Saints, Dobbs has 157 total yards and a touchdown. He’s one of the more exciting backups in the league and never ceases to entertain. 49ers rookie receiver Jacob Cowing was impressive on Sunday evening, hauling in four catches for 51 yards. He also had a 19 yard run.

Dobbs signed with San Francisco in free agency this offseason. The former Tennessee Vol is now with his 10th team (including multiple stops with the Browns and Steelers). Last year was especially crazy. He started the offseason in Cleveland, then was traded to the Cardinals, who then sent him. to the Vikings. Dobbs looked terrific in some games. In others, he looked like a guy who didn’t know the playbook. In others, he watched from the bench.

But maybe, the 49ers are the right place for the one-time Steelers NFL Draft pick. He will be Brock Purdy‘s backup. Although he is five years older, with a bevy of different experiences, Dobbs believes he can learn from Purdy, who helped lead the 49ers to the Super Bowl.
