Joel Klatt believes Texas will be ‘just fine’ moving forward

Based on their past two seasons, Joel Klatt says Texas is, in fact, back and not leaving again anytime soon.

Klatt spoke about the Longhorns’ program under Steve Sarkisian coming off their second playoff appearance during his show following the semifinals of the CFP.

“What a year for Texas. It really was,” Klatt said. “Sark is not going anywhere. This program is not going anywhere.”

Klatt has belief in what Texas is doing and can keep doing based on three reasons.

For one, the Longhorns have been in the College Football Playoff in consecutive seasons with an overall record of 25-5. They’ve lost in each of their semifinal matchups but have gotten to the postseason after not contending for much of anything in a decade or so.

“That is two straight trips to the national semifinal,” said Klatt. “They lose to Washington last year in a tight ball game – ball late, inside the ten-yard line. Ball late inside the ten-yard line in this ball game. They lose it in the national semifinal.”

For two, Texas adjusted well in their first season in the Southeastern Conference with a record of 7-1 and an appearance in the SEC Championship

“They, in a lot of ways, you know, put themselves at the top echelon of the SEC,” Klatt noted. “I know they didn’t win the SEC but they’re right there. They’re right there in their first year and I don’t see them taking any steps backwards in the SEC anytime soon.”

For three, the future could be even brighter for the Longhorns with Arch Manning. That next quarterback is someone that some on The 40 Acres might have even preferred as early as this fall.

“It looks like they’ve got Arch moving forward,” Klatt said. “There’s been reports that now Quinn Ewers is talking about the NFL and not in the transfer portal. We’ll see what his future is made of.”

Texas has had back-to-back double-digit win seasons for the first time since their last successful era to end the 2000s. Klatt now sees that continuing moving forward based on what they’ve done and proven over the last two campaigns.

“This program is going to be just fine,” said Klatt.
