Joe Milton: Bru McCoy can do ‘anything you can name’

Joe Milton is very excited about wide receiver Bru McCoy to shine for Tennessee on the football field this season.
McCoy played excellent for the Volunteers last season with, mostly, Hendon Hooker throwing him the football. Milton said it was just the beginning for the talented pass catcher.
Milton said just to wait to see what McCoy can do for Tennessee this season when speaking at SEC Media Days.
“There’s a lot of things you haven’t seen from Bru,” Milton said. “He’s a different person than he was last year. I feel like that’s everybody on Tennessee’s team. We’re different from last year.
“The more explosive plays from him. Pretty much anything you can name Bru can do. Whatever it takes, Bru is going to get it done. He also let me know that pretty much every day (smiling).”
In his first season with Tennessee, McCoy had 52 catches, 667 yards, four touchdowns and 12.8 yards per catch. That was after not playing in 2021 for USC. In 2020, McCoy played just six games for the Trojans and had 21 catches, 236 yards, two touchdowns and 11.2 yards per catch.
As a member of the Class of 2019, McCoy was a five-star recruit out of Santa (Calif.) Mater Dei, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 2 overall prospect in the state, the No. 2 wide receiver in the class and the No. 19 overall prospect in the class.
Milton wasn’t the only quarterback to praise McCoy coming back in 2023. Former signal caller Hendon Hooker, who was drafted by the Detroit Lions, gave a rave review of the entire group that returned.
“Yeah, so like Ramel [Keyton] is a very selfless player,” Hooker said. “Came in last year, like you said, made some huge plays and whenever we needed to lean on him, he was there, as well as Bru McCoy. Bru McCoy works extremely hard and he’s a big body. He makes big-time catches in big-time games and [is] another one of those guys who’s just selfless.”
Tennessee has to replace Jalin Hyatt this fall and McCoy is the prime candidate to do so. Will we be talking about Milton and McCoy as one of the best quarterback-wide receiver pairings in the country?
According to Milton, McCoy can make that happen.
