Jaydon Blue drafted in the 5th round by the Dallas Cowboys

Jaydon Blue played all three seasons of his career at Texas, gaining more and more touches each year. His 2024 boosted him into a pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Blue was selected in the fifth round by the Dallas Cowboys with the 149th overall pick.

His first season, he was a part of a stacked running back room, filled with players like Bijan Robinson (Falcons), Roschon Johnson (Bears), Keilan Robinson (Jaguars), and Jonathon Brooks (Panthers). He got limited playing time, grabbing a few touches in Texas’ thrashing of Oklahoma 49-0, but only totaled 15 on the year.
He was utilized significantly more in his sophomore year after the season-ending injury to Jonathon Brooks. He moved into a backup role to CJ Baxter later in the season, and tallied 65 rushes and 14 catches. The speedster totaled 398 yards on the ground, while punching in 3 touchdowns, and 135 yards through the air with a touchdown.
Then, due to a preseason injury to CJ Baxter, Blue stepped into an even bigger role for the 2024-25 season. However, due to his style of play and some fumbling issues, Tre Wisner took over the bulk of the workload. Blue still got good touches, tallying 134 carries for 730 yards, but was used significantly more as a receiver out of the backfield, catching 42 passes for 368 yards. He also punched in 8 rushing and 6 receiving touchdowns. He had a big game on the ground against Clemson in the first round of the CFP, with a 146 yard game, capped off by a 77 yard touchdown run with 10:48 left in the game. In the semifinal game against Ohio State, Blue caught Texas’s only two touchdowns after sneaking out of the backfield.
At the NFL Combine, Blue measured in at 5’9, 196 lbs, and ran a 4.38 40-yard dash, the second fastest from a running back this year.
