Jase McClellan recalls ‘butt-chewing’ from Nick Saban: ‘He told me to kiss his something’

The Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban expects a light out of his players, and running back Jase McClellan is no exception to the rule. As the Crimson Tide prepares for their Week 6 matchup on the road against the Texas A&M Aggies, the Alabama running back took a moment to recall his most infamous “butt-chewing” by the legendary headman.

“I think it was my freshman year when I got here,” said McClellan. “I was doing kickoff return, and I misjudged the ball and dropped it. And he told me to kiss his something. So that was one of my favorite things he said.”

Whatever Saban has been saying to McClellan and the rest of the Crimson Tide has lit a match under the program as they have been performing lights out in their last two games. Alabama took down both Mississippi SEC representatives, Ole Miss, 24-10, and Mississippi State this last weekend, 40-17. And in those matchups, McClellan was Alabama’s feature back carrying the ball 17 times for 105 yards and one touchdown against the Rebels and 15 times for 63 yards and a touchdown against the Bulldogs, respectively.

Nick Saban might not always share the kindest words with his players, but he definitely has a way of motivating them to get the best out of them. And although, to some, McClellan’s “butt-chewing by the Crimson Tide head man may be a head-scratcher, he was definitely a fan of it.
