James Morrow, touted young defensive recruit with big-time offer list, will return to Gainesville in July

GAINESVILLE, FLORIDA — Not many 2026 prospects have an offer list comparable to the one belonging to James Morrow. But not many have his frame either.
Thus far, the likes of Florida, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Michigan, Penn State and Texas A&M all have offered.
On the day of Florida’s Friday Night Lights camp (June 23), the Gators joined the offer club while Morrow was in town to give the program a first-hand look. He’s a 6-foot-4, 230-pound edge/outside backer from Buford (Ga.).
According to Morrow, it was a great visit.
“After seeing how they’re very family oriented and how their players treat recruits as family it just says something to me about the new organization and how Coach (Billy) Napier coaches this team,” Morrow said.

Gators edge/outside backers coach Mike Peterson, who played at Florida and then several years in the NFL, spent lots of time around Morrow during the recruit’s visit and made a good impression on him.
“He’s just an awesome guy,” Morrow said. “Treated me like family from the first time we met. Just every time you see him, he’s screaming your name, ‘Hey, what’s up? How you doing?’ Just checking on you and seeing how you’re doing during the visit.”
Now, Morrow already plans to return to Gainesville. He even has a date: July 29.
“I’ll be here for the cookout,” he said.
That Florida invited Morrow to that event speaks to the level of respect colleges have for him. Most of the invitees are expected to be in the 2024 and 2025 classes.
Although it’s early in his recruitment, Morrow has seen enough from Florida to know it’s a school that will have a seat at the table.
“I would say Florida’s definitely going to be there down the road,” Morrow said. “Just seeing how they treated me and how they treated my guest. Because, every recruiting lady isn’t going to come up to you. But at Florida, everybody just supported you with love. And they’re glad you’re here. And they’re excited about the future with you.”
